Natural Forms in Glass Art
This class will be devoted to the beautiful and compelling forms, textures, and colors that occur in nature, how they relate to art, and how best to construct them in borosilicate glass. We will make a concentrated study of what makes these natural components so compelling and why their use is a central aspect of representational, abstract, and surreal art. We will design pieces to test our ideas and to express our feelings. There will be demonstrations, discussions, and presentations. This class is open to students of all levels, but some flameworking experience would be helpful.
Hollow Forms
This class will focus on the use of hollow forms in freeform borosilicate glass sculpture. Hollow forms allow the artist to create shapes that are difficult or impossible to make using solid sculpted glass. We will experiment with sculpting and blowing techniques as well as surface applications like complex coloration and texturing. This class can be taken by itself or as a continuation of the "Natural Forms" class immediately preceding it. Some prior flameworking experience will be required for this class.
