Looking for the basic recipies
I'm new, almost 1 month now, and am looking for some very basic recipies to learn with. Pulling twisties, and then using them. Creating a tornado bead, petal implosions, striking, reducing, etc. but mainly, what is the end result, and how do I get there? Any suggestions?

Books: Passing the Flame, Making Glass Beads among others.
You Tube videos, there a quite a few, very interesting to watch & learn.
Here, look in the Tips and Techniques section and settle down to read

And search Tips & Techniques as well as Tutorials here, both free and for sale. There's tons of information to dig up! I'm pretty sure I remember my friend Joan (j2canoe) doing a free tut on petal beads. A lot of us have most of our bead education from reading and practice.

There are lots of free advice here. Some in the free tutorials and some in the tips and techniques. There are many good tutorials to purchase too. Some are listed here and some at other sites.

Hi Danielle, and welcome to The Addiction!
Here's what has worked for me: when I have a few spare minutes, I just start reading threads in Tips and Tricks. I keep my glass notebook next to me and write things down that interest me. I have learned so much this way! I have more fun doing it this way than trying to loom up a specific thing, but everyone is different. I wish you much happiness in glass.

I think the tornado you are looking for is called a vortex. You may have better luck chasing up threads about vortex marbles in some of the boro threads but remember that boro is much stiffer and shock tolerant than the softer glasses and you can learn to do things in boro quickly that take a lot of practice to accomplish in soft glass.
I lean heavily on youtube videos from Corning Museum of Glass and I google lampwork videos to try to find the webpages of artists that have videos to watch for free. A lot of them don't post to you tube but have a half dozen on their websites free for just visiting the site.
I am also very addicted to the book Passing the Flame.

Or you can download an app for your phone that will help you put colors together. I always have my phone with me at the torch so it's great to pull up the app and pick one color and then it will pick one or several complimentary colors. It's a fun app to play with.

Agree with the Soda Lime Times too. It's $5 a month and has lots of ideas and usually 2 or 3 tutorials in each. You can get back issues too. I download them to my kindle and keep that at the torch with me for inspiration or when I get a torching block.

Love SLT!!! I’ve subscribed since the first issue in 2011 (I think)! If you are considering buying back issues, there used to be a cumulative Table of Contents and an index of tutorials (with pics) on the website to help you choose.
