Hi Penny
There was a tutorial in the Flow Magazine recently. Check out their website, they probably have it there. Your beads are good. They look dead.
Good luck!

I'm not for certain but I believe DeAnne, "De", theglasszone, would be someone to ask. She "does" skull murrini. She's very talented.

good luck*

by the way, I like your skulls, they look very masculine...therefore perfect for a.....MAN!!

Thanks for the props, Lynn!

Penny, if Murrini aren't quite what you're looking for, maybe these two tutorials will give you some guidance:

I have one on my blog. It's very simple to do. You'll have to go back a bit, but it's there. Here's the link.
http://rosebud101-fortheloveofbeads....for-glass.html
This link will take you right to the tut.

Many Thank you's for all your help, Darlene, Lynn,DeAnne and Mallory, I've been doing some searching and all I can find so far for what I am looking for, looks like I need a mold.
I found this thread : http://www.lampworketc.com/forums/sh...ad.php?t=39653
to get the look of the skull I want. I was hoping to not use a mold. I have seen ones made out of hollow beads, wish I would have bought one to have a better look at it !
Many thank you's for all your help and suggestions .

P.S DeAnne your murrini are amazing ! I may have to buy some of them from you for another project !
Mallory, your skulls are adorable, thanks for the link, I will have to try some of them too !

Penny~

Just a head's up, Jeff/Inspiration Toolworks no longer makes this mold. It is now quite hard-to-find for second-hand purchase, but you might want to put a "WTB" (Want To Buy...) in Garage Sale here on LE to see if someone will sell (or even loan) theirs to you.

If that fails, there's these - available on eBay from Weaver Industries:

just a question here.... were you looking for a more 3-D round version or a flat face I find that the flat face is pretty easy to make... 2 round beads next to each other, one smaller than the other, squish, then poke in eyes a nose and 2 lines (on the smaller part) for teeth. easy to decorate too. I have some in the kiln now.... After making a few of these it seems like less detail is actually more....

Hi Jaci
I am looking for more of a 3D version, I've done the flat face ones but she's wants more the 3D look. Thanks for the advice, its hard to prefect the image someone else has in their mind !

I'm going to try playing with these again on Friday when I get a day off of the job that pays for me to play ! Wish me luck !

Thanks to all for your help and advice !

Well, here's a version I did for my Treasure Chest Bead Set; it's pretty simple to do, but looks cool, don't 'cha think?

Basically I started with an oval shaped gather (this was done off mandrel, but you could easily wind an oval onto a mandrel as the base). I then added two black dots for the eyes. Using a stringer, I drew a sideways figure "8" in the center of the face - with the "x" part being between the eyes. Adding a few stacked layers of stringers that I melted together and sort of flattened with tweezers to make the "jaw" area, then used the side of a "dental spatula" to cut in the teeth! A couple "dents" with a flat edged tool in an inverted "V" shape made the nose.

I added a CZ into one eye then wound a "bandanna" on his head just to give him a bit of pirate flair, but he would look pretty Skully without it, too.

Just throwing some ideas your way!

I do lots of skulls and pirate skulls. If you find the whole skull a bit of a challenge, you can do a heart or a flaming heart and add a skull murrini. Just an idea.

WOW, Peachy Penny! I think they're FANTASTIC! I too like the sunken cheek style...this makes them very unique! Awesome job...I hope your friend LOVES THEM!

Looks like you got a good "balance" going there too! I know from past experience that sometimes when you make a horizontal hole, the bead may look great on the mandrel, but once strung, it tends to list forward, backward, or flip upside-down! These look like they'll hang just great!

Congrats, missy! Your patience and diligence paid off!

These are my skulls... I just let the hot gather droop a little, then use small flat tweezers to flatten the "jaw" and add nose and eyes. I guess it is possible to play with teeth if ya want, but I chose to make simple ones. Maybe more complex ones for this Halloween
Pia

Edited to add: I like your skulls way better though, they look scarier, and more artistic, these were my only skulls and they are just experimental... I could have tried little harder... hehee!
