Default gasline

Hi all! So i got a few estimates to run a gas line. they ranged from $400-$2600
One of the plumbers said I must go to the town to get a permit to put the gas line in. while others said, that is not neccessary.... So can I please get your input on this?

Thanks!

Call your local city/county building inspection agency and ask them... Do not say your are going to add a torch (it will probably confuse them as they will not understand what a glass working touch is) tell them something like you wish to "extend" your gas line to include "new dryer location"....

IF they say no permit/inspection required then go for it.... IF the do say you need a permit/inspection then you should get one...

It's not what the rest of us think its what the building codes in your area require... It's a safety issue to be sure its done correctly, within specification and also a liability issue, if its done wrong and there is a problem you have recourse like law suit against plumber who did the work, it its a "illegal" connection then you are probably in for lots of problems including your insurance voiding you policy and you are open to lawsuits for any damage it may have caused anyone besides yourself ...

My area, King County, is one of the strictest in WA. They allow the home owner to install the line but it then must be inspected and pressure tested. Your area is probably different.

called the town and they said I need a permit and that any licensed plumber can apply for it. Thanks guys! I'll ask about the inspection and pressure test on Monday =)
