Default Really good prices on Boro!

Just got my hot little flyer from Winship.

They are selling Colormax boro - TEN pounds for $25.

Yes, that's not a typo. $2.50 a pound.

I love the Colormax for sculptural work, and the limited
pallet of colors is still pretty nice to work with.

They also have Glasstronics, and certain GA and NS colors
at 35% off.

Time to stock up kiddies.

It melts pretty smooth.
However, be forewarned - there are some compatibility issues
with colormax and other boro. If you search, there's some info
in other threads on this. I use colormax to do sculptural
single color work (or mix it with other colormax or small
amounts of other colors).

But again, for $2.50 a pound, it's a steal. Even if you just
make spacers . The Cognac is one of my favorite colors!

to add, the white doesn't boil at all....it is the smoothest, no bubble white I have tried. It's a bit on the transluscent side and it can devit when worked for a while. Some pieces have stone like bits that need to be picked out. Otherwise, it is a wonderful white.....

Some people have had cracking issues....I have not..
The cracked piece I was shown was blown and mixed with alot of silver colors.
I have used it in beads and marbles and so far it has been awesome.
Marbles from 2004 still okay.....

forgot to add--some colors were more prone to cracking. I heard that the greens were cracky.....

they don't sell it anymore, but the light cobalt was to die for....

Grrr, why do I have to be so weak when it comes to glass and a good sale. Maybe the third time would be a charm.

Karen, do you have any better pictures of the cognac? The one on winship isn't very good. Is it just an amber color?

Yes, it's a pretty amber color - looks almost like...well....Cognac .

It's dreamy. And I love the cobalt blue too.
The rose is great for florals (like roses ).

...and at $2.50 a pound, it's not about being weak.

How long are these rods? I thought I read some where that they're 12"?

I don't remember them being that short. I suppose I can go dig some out and measure them if the length is critical.

Last time I got them, they were standard "rod size" .
I know, that doesn't help - but they are the same size as
my northstar and my momkas on the shelf (and I don't have
shoes on, otherwise I'd go down to the dungeon and
measure for you).

Thats what I'm remembering too. and I'd go dig them out (they're in the way back rack) but I'm barefoot and the dungeon is full of sharps. But if its really that important I'll slip on some shoes. (read as I want to do sculptures that need a 20 inch rod)

no- they are long like regular. But mine were snap cut, not saw cut, so the ends have sharpies on them--watch out...I cut myself good on them....
if you need a pic, I will post one.
the rods are slightly odd shape--they look hand drawn.....some lumps in some of the rods....they are very chippy in rod form....I have several rods that broke into small pieces.......but it doesn't mean that they are cracky.....

The main reason I asked is because the other times I ordered from them, the rods came full length and shipping was extra because of the boxes. I just wondered if these would come in a "normal" glass size box.

What I would suggest is this.
Place your order now (it won't ship tonight)
and call them in the morning (or Monday if they aren't open).
Tell them over the phone what your worries are and make sure everything is
understood up front.

They really are great people, and are glad to help make your order go smoothly.

For the record, I don't work for them, and I'm not affiliated with them.
I'm just another Boro Glass ho .

Indeed you are . I started with BE only, but was lured into other COEs. I still own WAAAAAY more BE than anything else, but have 104, 96 and 33 now. I just bought a cricket and it is soooo much better with boro than my minor.

Why do you like the cricket better than the minor?
I have a minor, and was thinking about upgrading,
but the cricket seemed (to me) to be just filling the
same niche. Am I wrong?

It's hotter than the minor and on less oxy too. I have two 5 lpm oxycons yd together and the minor uses all of that oxy to get its hottest flame. When I use the cricket on the same oxycons, the ball on the oxycons drop, which means it does not even let a full 9 to 10 lpms of oxy through the torch - it allows a total of about 6 to 7-1/2 through the torch. If I run the cricket at full flow of about 7-1/2 lpm, the flame is definitely hotter than the minor at a 9 to 10 lpm flame. Hot hot hot baby!

I ordered a bunch... even if I just make spacers or simple beads with frit on the surface, the price can't be beat and it will be nice to have around.

I've been in "NO SPEND" mode lately but at $2.50/lb, I figured I had to at least give it a try. I've read about some people having issues with it so I'll have to keep it away from my NS color but theoretically, this 10 pounds I have on order could potentially last me for oh, I don't know....a LONG time!

Nate, if you got any of the white, let me know how it works for you, they were out when I ordered. I'll chime in with my results with the raspberry, cognac, green, rose and grey. Those were all they had left...
