National 8M tip suggestions for soft (104) glass
I originally set up my National 8M for boro. Currently using 7 orifice premix tip (I believe it's a HTC-0 7 hole silent burn -based on pictures from sundanceglass).
My question: has anyone done soft glass with this tip or should I get a surface mix tip - it appears most on this forum uses SM-7. Currently I'm on tank ox, but will be switching to concentrator in the near future.
From what I'm experiencing - the flame is very hot for 104, but I'm new to 104.
Thx for any info! Sandy

I think a surface mix would be best. I like a premix for certain applications with gold/silver fume, but a surface mix is be the most versatile - hard to use a premix flame of any size without boiling/scumming.

thank you for confirming my suspicions - I have been able to get some nice beads created, but I have to be very VERY careful with the setting on the flame (almost 0 tollerence) so surface mix it is! Thank you!

btw they make a premix tip that is for soft glass, its a propane/air tip (ambient air) it draws oxy from the surrounding air and I think is like a nicer hothead type flame

I use the sm-7 tip and get a nice flame. You can get a real nice pin point flame on this tip for smaller work. I am considering trying out the sm-21 but I would need a bigger concentrator.
