Default Just curious, can or old jar or ??

What do you have on your table to hold your dunk water?
I'm just curious
I usually use pottery, just because I like the look of it. The smallest one holds a cup comfortably, some hold closer to two cups. I do have an old glass jar from relish or something, and use it when I'm using 96. I have it marked that it's for 96 so I don't forget.

How large is your dunk container, and what is it made of?

I have an old square plastic container that used to house Feta cheese. It was the nearest thing to hand one day, and it hasn't burnt through yet.

I keep on meaning to change it out for something more practical, but why fix what isn't broken - yet?

Unless I'm making 104 frit I always chuck the contents out anyway. My tiny mind can't keep track of what I've dunked in there (I use both 90 and 104 on the torch), so its just better for all if the contents go to recycling.

I use a stainless dog bowl. It still rusts but I don't re use that glass anyways.

I need to make an aluminum one so I don't get rust though. I haven't had time to weld one up at work though.

I use a deep cafe au lait mug with a broken handle...works great and no rust!
I used to use a coffee can but eventually they rust, and leak.

I use a small stainless steel dog bowl too but mine doesn't rust (maybe because the water evaporates in a few days) - wouldnt matter though as I don't reuse that glass either lol

Before that I used a square plastic tupperware bowl but I got the "you'll shoot your eye out" speech from someone about using plastic near the torch so I swapped it out.

I used to use a small glass, but I've been trying to remove all the breakables from my work area. So, I changed that out to a small stainless steel bowl I picked up at the thrift. There is a little rusting but mostly kind of a dusty, grungy residue that means it's mostly stuck to being used as a junk water container.

I used to use a small plastic honey bucket.
Until the water got low in it one day and I put a hole in it with a hot mandrel.

When I refilled the bucket next time I had water all over the bench.
And then later I realised it wasn't evaporation it was the cat drinking it!

so I switched to a narrower glass jam jar.

But I never think to refill the water anymore so it sits dry and forlorn on my bench to receive the bad mandrels and dead beads now.

I use a metal pail sort of thing that I bought from Ikea. Probably holds about 4 cups when I remember to fill it up.

I have a big stainless steel utensil holder for mine. I've burnt through plastic tubs before and my glass jar cracked when the water froze in it.

I just hate sorting out how to empty the stupid thing

Mine is a wide mouth glass pickle jar, half gallon size. As Deb says, big enough to dunk a burned hand into.

OK, one reason I was asking is that I have a couple extra pottery jars, nothing special, I just made them for this purpose, but I have too many.
I got to wondering what other people used, and it sounds like some have a favorite, but some just use whatever is at hand.
Maybe I will do a give away or something.

I use an old, glass, Mr. Coffee, coffee pot carafe I picked up at the thrift store.
It has a handle and when I dump the water, the way the coffee pot is shaped catches most of the gunk at the neck.
No bead release/glass bits in the plumbing.

I use the same as Bubby... except it is one I saved from when our last drip coffee pot bit the dust.

I had to start adding a few drops of dish soap to mine each time I refill it to keep the cats from drinking it.

The lizards & frogs drink mine I think, but without it they would die, so I just leave it for them. I was putting water down in a plastic lid on the floor, but decided anything that gets in my building can probably climb.
