Default didy clip ons

My didimium clip ons just snapped in 2 at the solder point of the cross bar, Does not look repairable...Glass is still good. Anybody recommendations? The old plastic fit-overs are way too heavy on my nose with my regular glass as well...
must be a month of fatigue as my arm rest broke last week, wahhh!

I highly recommend getting a diddy lens on a bench shield.

They are running just about as much as the glasses, fit overs or otherwise and it is an entirely different way to melt glass once you get one.

Lets you see absolutely true color of the glass before it gets hot as well so you don't have to worry about picking up the wrong one while wearing the diddys only to figure it out once it comes out of the kiln.

not so keen on adding one more thing to my desk top, but it is still possibility, ty. I got one estimate for a solder repair of 89 dollars...huh?
These are the old aura glass lenses so it would be nice to keep them.

Some folks figure out how to hook their didy shield upside down to their hood.

I got really really lucky.

Someone here posted a copy of a craigs list ad from LA about a glass teaching studio getting rid of some half dozen of older bench shield diddys for about half the cost of new.

I figured it was a crap shoot but I sent them an email and offered to cover the cost of shipping.

Three weeks later and I had one for $75 plus shipping.

Like I said I got really really lucky on that one.

See if you can do searches in the craigs list for all of the major cities surrounding where you live and search for didymium or lampwork or flame work and keep your fingers crossed.

I wish you luck.

But good new wearable didys are running as much as new bench shields ( or they were when I stopped looking some two years back) so it is almost break even.

And the freedom a shield gives you can make it a whole different way to melt glass.

I second the JBWeld. It may not be pretty, but it's gonna hold till the second coming. I use it for everything that won't take heat and more permanent than Gorilla tape.

Wally world has sunglasses that come in a dozen shapes and I bet they have ones that those lenses would swap right into easy peasy.

My frame over didys broke too, one year old. Company didn't make good on it as the warranty was up. I bought a bench shield. Not going to keep buying glasses every year! Arrow springs sells the bench shield hunks of glass or you can get a full made shield with stand at sundance art glass.

And I wear glasses anyway for vision correction and it is so nice not having another pair slapped on my face! And the bench shield blocks a decent bit of the face heat.

A bench shield is nice for blocking exploding glass. Smoldering shards of glass shooting up the nose is uncomfortable.

See if there's an eyeglass repair place near you. I bet they can be repaired by someone that can weld frames.

Has anyone checked out the didy stuff at Devardi Glass? I'm wondering if it looks like a good bet. Right now their desktop shield is on sale for $59. Speedslug what do you think of the products offered? Who do you think might be the manufacturer?

Another glue possibility might be E6000.

Devardi tools and materials are going to be made overseas, probably by hand and at minimal cost when possible but that is why they are priced the way they are.

That said, there is nothing inherently wrong with them.

As for torches and diddy glasses I assume they are as good as any others that you can get although the fit and finish might not be as crisp and polished as we might be used to.

Torches and eye wear are going to have to meet certain safety standards set by the government so I would be happy to buy and use them myself.

You could find issues like the torches outer surface might have rough spots where the molds to make them come together.

But imperfections like that won't change how well they work.

I just now looked at their selection of diddys and they all look just fine.

4 inches is a little small to my way of thinking for a bench shield but I am addicted to the school of "more is better".

I think if I were just starting out that bench shield would be perfect and the price is pretty good too.

ETA: My first bulk lampwork purchase was from Devardi and I still use all of the hardware I bought from them and I often play with Devardi glass when I am trying something new or just waiting for my inspiration to kick in.

I haven't done this yet but my glasses shop asked why I didn't just get my corrective prescription in didyium.

Anybody else do this?

Lots of folks have but the costs were a little spendy on occasion.

I think China has the most sources of the material used to make diddys and the price can be all over the map.

Also eye prescriptions can change in as little as a year or two and changing diddys that often can put you in the poor house in short order.

My eye script changes almost every year. I wouldn't want to have to buy new didys every single year.

I don't think that's true at all.

Some lampwork eyewear may be certified to ANSI standards, but most styles are not, and the standard has nothing to say about the filtration, only how well it blocks flying debris.

Torches are entirely unregulated, as far as I know.
