Default Beeswax

Hi all artists! Could someone tell the uses of beeswax? I know on the graphite pads and paddles, but what is the best process? And can it be used on mandrals? Thank you so much!

You don't want to use beeswax on your graphite goodies, just on stainless steel. Only use it on tools that you want to glide, not on grabbing tools. Just flash the tool through the flame, then swipe it onto the beeswax block. You can fling off any excess or just let it burn off the first time you use the tool.

Kinda like Grandma having a block of it around her ironing board to swipe the iron over once in a while - we were to poor to have beeswax so we used waxed paper on the iron....hmmmmm?

You can also melt some with olive oil to rub on etched beads and that gives them a lovely gleam.

This is the first I've ever heard of this. What is its purpose on mandrels and the like?

NOT on mandrels. Just on tools. I use a bit of it on Val Cox's brass marver to help the glass glide over the brass, and on my brass Stump Shaper when I want glide instead of grab (which brass will do, especially when the metal is cool).

you can also melt it with a metal stylus like the kind that is used to make Ukranian Easter eggs and paint it on beads as a resist prior to etching.
