Shards
I have finally decided to try my hand at making shards. Color combinations are not one of my strong suites, so I was wondering if you might share your shard recipes?

Silvered ivory and silvered coral are real nice. Double Helix shards too. And Raku or Multicolor.

Kathy, so you only make single color shards or do you mix them?

It really depends on the effect you want, I think. Quite often I start with a clear base and then add swirls of a couple different DH glasses. (Those always look cool on Dark Ivory.) Effetre Silver Plum makes really cool shards. I've also gotten some cool effects by dipping my shard base in frit a few times and melting it in before I blow it out. I think there was a S&T thread on shard beads somewhere in the gallery-- you'd have to go back a few years to find it-- but I bet you can find some neat ideas there!

Well shoot, they've already named all my favorites. I would say try some of the reactive colors together. Ivory and turquoise, EDP and pea green, copper green and gold pink, EDP and turquoise, EDP and coral and on and on. Doesn't matter what the pattern is (or lack of), just lay them side by side or on top of each other, melt in and blow.
