Default Need help with Gold Fuming!!!

Someone wanted me to make a gold fumed pipe for them. So I made a couple and took them out of the kiln this morning and noticed I could just rub all the gold fume off with my fingers. Is this normal? Is there a way to keep that from happening? Would it help if I fumed it with silver a little bit first? I want that nice pink color from the gold. Please Help!

yes that did help, thanks. I think maybe I wasn't heating up the glass enough after fuming. unfortunately, I just went out to studio to try again, only to realize I'm out of oxygen

Put a super light layer of silver down first for the gold to stick to

I think the best way is covering your fuming with clear. Fuming silver first will change the color of the gold to a greenish hue. All uncovered fuming will rub off eventually.

With boro find that using 22 K gold sticks better than 24 K according to a number of posts.

Fumed the below beads with 22 K without a silver base on Simax clear. Placed two test beads in my pocket with keys and tested for a month. No visible sign of scratches or fading gold.
