Bubbly black?
I've got about a pound of the hard to get reichenbach deep black, when I went to use it yesterday it just ended up as frit - I looked really closely at the rods and they seem to have little bubbles all through them
Will prewarming help? I can't see how because it's like little pockets of air all through the rods, but there must be something I can do

I just got some deep black in two weeks ago from OCR, did you get fairly fat rods? I pulled some stringer from one of the rods this weekend and didn't notice anything unusual. Oftentimes I adjust my flame a little bit, more propane or oxy depending on the glass, or just work a bit cooler and the bubbles will go away. I don't remember needing to do this for the batch I received but I can check tonight when I torch.

Hand pulled rods usually means air bubbles in rods. You need a longer warm up time for rod further out in flame, the melt the rod. Otherwise it is best to pick up the frit and made your own rods of glass with the intractable glass rods

Wow, the 104 version? I didn't get to torch tonight but I just checked my rods and they are completely smooth, no bumps at all. Contact OCR and see if they can exchange it for you maybe?

Sounds like a bad batch. The seller should have to replace it.
I wonder if annealing it would help? I sometimes make twistys
that keep breaking & it helps if I anneal them first.
