Does anyone know where Satake Glass can be purchased? Online?

Right now the only place is http://www.satakeglassusa.com/ However it isn't what I would call "online shopping", since you have to make out a list and send it to them.

However I fell in love with Satake (thanks Jeff!) and decided to start selling it myself. We (dh and I) are in the process of making a real shopping site for Satake. Yesterday our order of 1 rod of every color came in, and we started squishing it to take pictures! I'm soooooo excited. Of course with 160 colors this may take us a couple of days.

Thanks Judi, I didn't know they were carrying it. Too bad they don't carry the full line, I really like the soda colors. Ah well, that just means there is still space for me.

This is really exciting news, Jo! I've no doubt that I couldn't do more than make a puddle of melted glass with Satake right now...But I have great hopes that won't always be the case!

I just love the their colors.

I do agree with you, the soda colours are really lovely! I use a HH and the first time I tried Satake my hands shook so much as it melted like butter...I managed to make some beads tho hehe

I like the idea of sample/colour packs and frit....

Good luck in your venture, Im sure it will do well. I shall certainly be buying from you...

Once we get pictures taken I'll be doing "name that glass" games. Some of them are super pretty, but have names like "gray ruby". Ick!

C&R Loo carries Satake. They also have a mother of pearl moretti compatable glass that sounds cool. Has anyone used it?

Thanks Kevan, I didn't know they had it either! We are shooting for about $16 per pound if you buy 10 kilos or more (which is 22 lbs

The Mother of Pearl CR Loo has is to die for. It's a little shocky, and if you get the great big rods you'll have to pull them down. But it is gorgeous!

Satake is to die for!!!
I live about 10 miles from there warehouse.
2 or 3 times a year I try to do a bulk buy from them to get the best price.
I will probably need more in March.

This is the first I've heard of Satake glass?

Is it compatable with Moretti? As easy to work with?

There's a French "Moonstone" glass that is very pale, especially the pink. It's available at Glasscraft.

Kathy -

It's not compatible with Moretti. It has a much lower melting temperature, and works well with the HotHead. It also stays soft a lot longer than Moretti, which takes some getting used to. It's primarily used by the Japanese lampworkers, and they do some incredible things with it.

Yep, Courtney is right, no compatability. In fact there are 2 kinds of Satake glass, leaded and soda (or unleaded

). The soda has COE 113, and the leaded has COE 120. You can use one with the other in the same way we use 96 COE frit with Moretti 104 COE. Jeff Barber makes some absolutely stunning beads with Satake. http://www.lakesideartglass.com/ No relation, I just like his beads.

Cool! I have found that if you overheat the pinks they will turn a lighter shade. Some colors, like "Gray Ruby" have wonderful striations. The ivory is superb too. I'm looking for reactions now like with Moretti ivory and turquoise. Yesterday I finished making all the glass "lolipops", and hopefully DH is taking pictures today so I can get things up and running!

The black (both lead and soda) is deliscious. But don't eat it. If you work is very cool it looks like hematite. Heat it more, and you get a true black. I've pulled it out into stringers and used it that way too. It is not quite as black as intense black as stringer, but much better than Moretti or Vetrofond in that it stays black.

I love the ivory and the browns......

So far I havent seen any reactions to speak of.... I am very new to Satake though and still experimenting.

Glad you mentioned about the black. I thought I'd burnt mine when I got the hematite look.

I have found that using my graphite marver leaves some marks on the glass so I started using a really good 2inch long metal filler tool, works a treat neat! Satake works ok in a press too.....

I get nervous waiting so long before I tuck my bead away as it stays soft a lot longer than other glass.

Looking forward to the pics going up on your site...I shall keep my eye out!
