Awesome space, looks really good...

May I suggest you use something to hold up hoses out of the way so you do not get your legs tangled up in them while sitting at bench....

Also so what CFM hood did you finally decide to go with...

Nice space! Wonder how long it's going to stay that clean

You may want to take the grease screens out of the vent.

Thanks for all the great responses!

This really was a long project, from start to finish, about 8 months. We built a big unattached garage, with studio in the back. Propane is housed outside, easily accessible, but in it's own little covered crate, then plumbed through the wall (thanks to Deanne's tutorial!). Hubby did most of the hard, tedious work. I did the tiling (floor, counter top, and back splash, and helped him when I could.

The glass cabinet was custom designed and made by him - first big wood project, and I could not be happier!!

David, yes the fan pulls much better minus the screens. I often pull them out when I am torching. I want to attempt to take all but one layer of screen out, just so silver foil doesn't get pulled all the way through.

Dale, it is 900cfm, 36" 6 speed, dual centrifugal motor, and exhausts directly to the outside, shortest vent run possible. Pulls great, passes the incense test easily. Took me forever to decide which one to go with, but lots of research, and listening to all you guys helped immensely. I know it would pull even better if it was a barley style box, but need it open so I can use it to exhaust when I am soldering for stained glass work too. I have the clamps to get the hoses up under the counter, just have to make business of getting them up. Everytime I go out there, I get sidetracked - usually by turning on the torch! After four plus years on a hothead, the Piranha is heaven!

You both should be so proud of the beautiful job you did. I love all the natural light. So so pretty.

Am I the only one with serious glass envy?

What a wonderful studio. Great for you to have a husband who totally pitched in. The glass storage - so well planned, as was the rest of the studio.

I think you need me to come over and 'mess it up' just a little and give it that 'lived in' look.

I love all the natural lighting, and I love love that storage cabinet! I'll be if he ever produced them for sale, he'd have lots of takers.

Ofilia, I would love you to come "mess it up" anytime, although I can do a pretty good job of messing it up myself at times!

Kim, I spent hours looking at all the studio pictures here and researching what others on LE did when setting up their studios, before finalizing my layout. It is a wonderful resource! That's one of the main reasons I put my pictures here, because it was everybody else's pictures that helped me so much!!

The area under the torch is black marble tiles (24" by 36"), but the rest of the counter is the same tiles as the backsplash. The marble provides a nice smooth surface for working on, and I wanted that area dark for contrast when working in the flame. I would have loved to do the whole counter in the marble or granite, but just couldn't justify the expense. I have the torch clamped in place, and quick connects on the hoses, so it is easily moved when I want to work on stained glass there.

I think my husband thought I was crazy for requesting as many windows as possible, but I have found as I get older that there is no such thing as too much light, especially natural light!
