Double Helix Seconds
Has anyone purchased any of this "seconds"? Could you describe what made it go into this catagory? Would you buy some again? TIA, Dianne

Double Helix's "seconds" are not much different from its "firsts" - Jed and Julie have the highest standards for quality control, their seconds are better than most firsts from other manufacturers!

There's absolutely nothing wrong with them except perhaps a variation in the thickness of the rod, but it's nothing that impacts performance of the glass.

I buy seconds whenever possible. I think the glass itself is still first quality, just the rod is not perfectly round or smooth.

Ditto, ditto, ditto. I buy seconds often. I like some variation in rod size personally. Out of all the Zephyr seconds I've bought (pounds), one rod had a stone and it was tiny.

Oh, yes! They are the exact same as firsts EXCEPT for rod width... totally worth the money.

I think it pretty much says it all
From Double Helix,
"Our second quality rods are less than perfect in shape. They may be too large, too small, too short, chipped, twisted or have an inclusion. They have all passed both our compatibility test and our color test, just not our pretty rod test."

I have some Elektra firsts and seconds. I cannot tell the difference visually to be honest, and they work exactly the same.

I buy them all the time.
DH seconds are as good as other manufacturer's firsts!
Most of the time it's about the sizing of the rods. That they're not completely the same size diameter on one end, than on the other.
I never had trouble with "seconds" with scumming or bubbles or other quality issues. I think it's more cosmetic.

Thank you all for the input. I will now go look at the seconds, must be something there I would like to try. Dianne
