Default Annealing Schedule Just for Beads

I'm wondering if I could use a faster annealing schedule if I'm only annealing BHBs that are approximately 15mm x 10 mm. Currently I don't have enough large mandrels and would like to make two batches in one day. My kiln is firebrick.

My current schedule:
Garage 1050
Anneal 1075 for 1 hr
Drop 200/hr to 960 and hold 30 mins
Drop 200/hr to 850
Off

At 400 I've been venting till cool enough to handle. Seems like it take 6 hrs to get to 400. Could I vent sooner?

Oh, I've been flame striking. Thanks!

For beads - 1050 for 1/2 hour. Then turn kiln off. I don't open the kiln door until its down to 200 or less (for my own safety, and also because 'grasshopper must learn patience'). Also, figure out your own annealing schedule by using the 'concrete refrigerator test'. Make a large bead. Anneal for 1/2 hour. Let cool. Remove from kiln, hold overhead and drop on concrete floor. Put into freezer for 1/2 hour. If it is still in one piece with no cracks, a half hour is good.

BHB = Big Hole Bead

If you can flame strike the beads, there is no need to hit 1075.

Alternatively, what I've done when using some specialty mandrels, is half-fill a crock-pot with vermiculite, and leave it at high setting. Make my bead, toss it in, allow to cool so I can re-coup my fancy mandrel, and then batch anneal all crock-pot beads at one time. Works like a charm, and I've not cracked any yet.

Further, I agree with annealing at 1050 if you are flame-striking ~ I think the extra step at the end of your schedule above could be taken out completely. I hold for 30 minutes at 960, then off. I crack my kiln at 400 or below.....

Val, awesome idea to reuse the mandrels in the same session!

Thanks everyone, those tips should have speed things up a bit.
