what brand of boro colored glass do you use most often?
BRAND OF COLORED BORO YOU USE THE MOST--
Northstar
Glass Alchemy
Momka
TAG Elvis
Chinese
Other Brand
Hi, I was curious as to which brands of boro colored rods were the most popularly used. Most of us probably use a range of brands, but which one do you use the most often? Mine is Northstar, though I use some colors of all the brands, (except Chinese). Thanks, Cynthia

I really don't have a good answer for that because I pull whatever makes me happy that day. And...I combine stuff, so I might have Onyx, TAG, and Colormax in one item.
I guess except for a few exceptions, it's more the color than the working qualities that makes me want to grab it.
The exceptions are transparent reds and yellows where I prefer Elvis Red and Yellow over NS Garnet and NS(?) Warm Yellow just because of they way they work.

if its a boro glass containing a colorant, i use it as long as it melts and doesn't crack.

I don't have a brand preference, each type has colors that I use. More than half of my boro is NS because that's what I started out with, but like Chris said, if it melts and doesn't crack I use it!

I use all the brands. I guess I use Tag the least but only because they have the least amount of colors by volume.
I am more picky on my clear Boro as far as brands then the color.
Like everyone has said as long as it does not crack.

I just have more Northstar than other brands, so it wins by default.
Simax would win overall, though...

I use it all too! Each company has it's strengths.
There's also parramore, borostix and glow glass!
Picky on clear like the other said above, Simax or Pyrex.

Seriously. It's all the same COE -- there's no reason NOT to mix it up.

I believe Parramore is going out of business, and you should try Schott clear boro. It's great! The only thing I like Simax better for is striking frit on the inside. Other than that, I think Schott is less expensive and more resilient than Simax, Pyrex, Kimble, Kimax.....etc.

I'll use nearly everything but I have more Northstar than anything else, followed by GA. I like both companies a lot; I'm a fan of shopping local when I can and I'm a lucky girl having so many choices in my area.

I have a green like this too - unfortunately a nice color. I make spacers with it and roll it in a light frit - butterscotch, NS Blue Carmel, or strike 5 all work well as surface decoration to get the green al used up.
The 70 mesh amazon colors can also be partly melted in like a raised sugar effect that is nice.
The other thing that works well is a raised stringer or clear, blue carmel, or strike 5 or anything that will reduce - couple zig zags and there you go

I know I have some Northstar but I've settled into a comfort zone with GA. I'm familiar with their colors, I love that I can buy 4mm rods (since I just have one oxycon, my National, even with a premix tip, struggles with the 7mm), and I LOVE LOVE that they have a program where they work with artists to develop and try new colors. Go GA!
