Question Propane regulator confusion

First, I am not even close to making my first bead.

I just purchased a kiln, O2 concentrator, and Nortel Minor torch from my supplier who is retiring (used). He gave me the hoses and a propane regulator

The regulator looks like the one on my BBQ. I have seen others on here with 2 gauges (pressure and propane level). Do I need this 2 gauge set or can I just use the regulator I was given?

Many more questions to come

Hi Brad! Welcome to the forum ~ you’ll find lots of helpful folks here.

The regulator that came with your setup is called a pancake regulator and it is perfectly sufficient for regulating the pressure from a 5 gallon (20 lb.) tank (the kind you normally see on a bbq grill). A dual gauge regulator doesn’t provide any additional information or control. If you didn’t get a flashback arrestor, that is a good idea and not expensive. You don’t need the flashback arrestor on your oxy con, just on the fuel side.

I’m assuming you know that the propane tank needs to be outside for safety?

Thank you. There is a flashback arrestor on the hose. I have to get an extension as the hose is too short to make it outside.

This is just an appreciation bump because I love how helpful this site is with setup and safety. Kept me from blowing up so far, so it must be good!

If the hose is getting old, you should consider just getting a new and longer hose. They do go bad, and I am thinking I need to buy a new one for myself. It isn't leaking, but they aren't all that expensive and could save me trouble (and $$) in the long run.
