Let's play "name that glass"
I need an ID on this glass. It is 104. It's not EDP, it's not Lavender Blue Pastel.
I'm usually the go-to color girl but I'm stumped.

Thanks Robin. It's definitely 104. The rods are generic 5-6 mm.
It's not vivid like purple rose and it doesn't devitrify.

Lauscha? The reason I ask is because going through some really old stash that was long forgotten, I found a lavender that I know for sure was Lauscha. Back in those days I bought nothing but 104. The rod I have is about 8-9mm. I packed it away again, so it is buried.
I will go on Paula's site to see if I can find anything similar.

Elizabeth, go to firelady.com and look on page 3 of the Glass section. "Wisteria", is that it??
The only other glass I am thinking it could be is some of the original ASK. I am not familiar with the glass but I remember there was a dusty lilac color like that.

I'd have to see the end of a Wisteria rod but mine are thinner rods than what Marcie has in stock.
Not ASK Lilac Ice or Berry Creamy or Lavender Fields, I've got those.
It's not the 253 striped pink which has a core of clear or rubino. And 253 devits like crazy.
It's not Reichenbach Pearl Violet or Soft Violet either, I have those too.
Sorry. If this was easy, I'd know what it was.

It could be thinner rods of the Wisteria. A possibility, because I have gotten thin rods as small as 4-5mm of Lauscha from Jo-Del when she was selling a lot of it several years ago. The turquoise opaque I have right now (9 yr old stash) is skinny, but most Lauscha you get these days is 7-10mm.
Could this be some of your really old stock, and did you ever buy from Jo-Del? Or get some Lauscha from a Garage sale? RAOGK? Just trying to jog your memory. lol!

I want more of it!
It's not Pinky Winky, I have that (nasty shocky stuff).
Had to look up 933, never knew there was a Pink #2. So maybe.
This really isn't pink. It's more between Lilac and Violet but brighter.
Lisa I got this in a trade with Susan Blessing. She didn't know what it was and she hadn't touched her soft glass for a couple of years. She sent me a photo and I guessed it was 247 but it's not.
Then again it could be an odd lot of anything. I'd sure love to have some more.

Is the tip of the rod in the pic slightly translucent? Most of the Lauscha opaques I have worked with do that.
I just sent firelady a PM.

Could it be Effetre Dark Periwinkle? It looks like the one on this page: http://harrachglass.blogspot.com/201...lass-tips.html

My Z99 looks just like that on the ends. I have thick and skinny rods. I can take a pic tomorrow. Just pm me to remind me.

Not Dark Periwinkle, not Z-99. I have both and this is 104 definitely.
Yes, the melted bit is slightly translucent, but it it doesn't have the whitish sheen that Lauscha rods get. Lauscha Wisteria still is a contender. Let me know what Marcie says Lisa.
Tomorrow I'll post a photo of the glass with the above suggested colors for comparison.

This is Vetrofond 933 Pink #3. I have just a few rods. It was an odd lot that Frantz was selling at one time. ABR Imagery has it.

To me, I looked at the photos of the ends and thought "Lauscha" - I have several colors of Lauscha glass that have those nice, super regular, rings.
Doesn't really get you closer to knowing which color, but I think it might be worth trying that Wisteria...

As soon as I hear back from Marcie, I will let you know. Here are the photos on Glassdaddy's site. See how the Lavender looks somewhat like yours, but a little darker? The Wisteria is supposed to be lighter than the Lavender. I think we are getting close!

It sure looks like my glass is the second from the bottom, which must be Wisteria if the other opaque is Lilac.

Thanks for the ideas!
It is none of the Vetrofond Pinks. They all go grayish. This one gets brighter.

Mystery solved!!
When I was pulling the other colors, I found a single labeled rod of Lauscha Wisteria. No brainer.
From left: Z-99 Purple Rose. 254 EDP. 247 Lavender Blue. 253 Rosa Variagata aka Striped Pink. 706 Pinky Winky (good guess Judith). ASK Lilac Ice. ASK Berry Creamy. 364 Dark Periwinkle. 933 Pink #3. Lauscha Wisteria. Original rod.
Woot! Now to find some in thinner diameters!
Thanks for the help and Lisa you really nailed it.

My question is.....about the diameter. The Wisteria that I've had in stock is 7-9mm, but you had mentioned 5-6 mm. I have plenty of the Wisteria, still, by the way. And the photo above is definitely and obviously Wisteria. I'm just wondering about the original glass you wanted to ID. Might have been Lauscha LILAC, which had a trifle more pink-iness to it. Wisteria has a slightly bluer cast, as you can see!

I Can Look for the Glass for You in Lauscha
If you want to send me a sample, just in case it's not Wisteria, I can look for it in the Lauscha warehouse for you.
I'll be going the first week of August, and could try to match it for you...

I'll sent you a sample Marcie. I'll also melt some of the Wisteria labeled rod (on Monday) and see if it works up the same as my mystery glass.
I'll see if I have any labeled Lauscha Lilac too, if I do I can compare them.
Thanks for all the help!
Liz

This is great! I'm so glad this glass mystery is getting even closer to being solved! It is a beautiful shade of light violet and I really understand why you are wanting more of it. Lauscha melts like a dream! I love working with it.

I'm a late convert to Lauscha. Love the glass, don't love the fat rods.

The fat rods are a PITA, but not as shocky as some of the Effetre, believe it or not. Once it starts to flow, it's creamy-like. Hard to describe. lol!
Some of the opaques are weird though. When you work with them as a base color or as stringer work on a base, some of them will go transparent/translucent and almost disappear. You will notice that as the bead is cooling, right before you pop it in the kiln. Like, "where is the color??". But it will opacify in the kiln. I found this out years ago when I was making these beads and batch annealing them for a few months. The turquoise would almost disappear and look like a cloudy pale blue film before I put them in the kiln. After a couple of hours of slow ramp up and 1 hour at annealing temp, they would opacify. I LOVE this blue! It's not like any of the Effetre colors. It's a real sky blue kind of blue.
The pink set is made with another opaque color that become more opaque in the kiln. That's (Reichenbach?) Raspberry Pink #00 on the Lauscha pink base, gravity swirled.

I wonder if the sky blue is Stardust Blue. (I have a ton of it and would give a great deal to the readers of this thread for it!!!)
Meanwhile, about the fat diameters.....that's not necessary, you know. they make standard diameters. At least half of what I buy are 6-8 mm. You can get 5-7 mm etc., as well. It's just that there is a price break at 7-9 mm and so lots of distributors choose to import the larger diameter rods because they're cheaper.
