Default Avoiding sifter spills?

Does anyone have a magic method for keeping their sifter from spilling? It seems like every time I need to use mine, It topples over and gets dumped somewhere in between filling it and using it. That's not a big deal if it spills on my marver, where I can salvage the contents easily, but that never seems to be the case. I don't mind so much if I'm using relatively cheap frit powder, but I am in fear of spilling expensive enamels. Please Help!!

I have some small, shallow metal trays. No idea where I got them. With your talent with cans, you can probably come up with something better. A shallow can bottom with a little lip for the sifter handle, or something.

How about a coffee cup?

Maybe take your sifter to goodwill and see if you can find a perfect fit?

Desk drawer organizers or mancala boards work well.

Carefully put your sifter in the drawer, and leave it there in the bag it was sent in... at least that is what works for me

I got some frit/annealing trays from Arrow Springs that might work for you - about 3"x41/2". Very handy little things for trapping small stuff like murrini too.

Challenge accepted, 3Muses.

I got busy tinkering. 1st, I filed the bottom curve of that fidget-y little twisted wire handle so it now has a flat surface to rest on (also removed a couple burs that always seem to poke me when I pick it up). That made a noticeable difference, but lets face it, that wire is not wide enough to really make a stable platform...

Then I dug a can lid out of the trash. Please note: My can-opener leaves the rim on the can and for this application that's a bonus. It means No sharp edges and fewer spills!
I put it in hubbies bench vice and bent about 1/2" down flush with the lid. (Cutting it would have left a sharp edge and I most definitely don't want that!) I cut a small notch in the center of the folded edge. Then I put the sifter in the slot, and carefully marked where the bottom of the cup rested on the lid. From there, it was back to the bench vise where I folded the lid at about a 90 degree angle. The bench vice flattened the rim on both sides of the fold. I further flattened one side to form a funnel for easy clean-up of spills. So far it works pretty well, altho the notch I cut is a little too wide so I have found that it's the most stable if I put the sifter in with the handle about a 60 degree angle to the support.

My next big tinker will probably be to J-B weld a small washer on the handle to make a stabilizer... but that's a job for another day.

Neat solution, Ms. Cake! (I knew you'd come up with something cool)

I made one final modification to the sifter itself and J-B welded a small washer on the handle. It really makes a HUGE difference in stabilizing it, and I don't think it will effect my grip much at all.
