Backing Gold Fumed Pendants
I have finally mastered gold fuming (yippee). I like to do tube implosions and they come out looking great but I don't know what color to use to back the pendant to really make the gold fuming stand out. Any suggestions?

Yippee is right. I can't help you with the color choices as I haven't got to gold fuming yet. But I am happy for you.

I like Jet Black or a dark cobalt. I also like to use white to create a really pretty pink. Make sure to get a heavy gold fume if you want to use white though, it can get washed out.

Darker colors set off the fume better than light colors. Onyx or grape or amethyst or cobalt etc. Stick with the WYSIWYG colors at first if possible unless you're ok with what my girlfriend lovingly calls "subtle" pieces... Although I've found some good combos by experimenting!

I mostly stick with black or cobalt. tag blackjack is my favorite. The dark colors make the fume standout and they work great for blank canvas for surface decoration. Pics?

LOL! I forget that people aren't as steeped in tech-talk as I am sometimes.
Pro Tip: Double-click on unfamiliar words (to highlight them), then right-click and select "Search for <word>" option to avoid all that cumbersome going to Google, copy & paste hassle. Works in Firefox and IE 8 (haven't verified any other IE versions).

What is everyone's favorite cobalt? For this application in particular?

I use Onyx mostly. But I also like backing it with Elvis.

Cool! I think cobalt 5 is what I just ordered, and I was planning in trying some red elvis on the back of a gold fumed pendant later on today. Thanks!

Love this thread, love fuming!! Here is a pic of a gold and silver fumed tube implosion I did this week. For my backing I used a center circle of cobalt and once that nearly melted in, I used the new NS Lilac Experimental around the outside of the cobalt. I always like darker colors as a back on a fume, but liked the effect I got as a highlight out of the lilac. It seemed to pop more colors on my fume.

I like the effect you got with the Lilac Christy. Are those bubbles in the Lilac or an interesting texture? Or both maybe?

The bubbles are definitely a result of the lilac. Had I not done that -- the glass would have remained clear with the cobalt backing. Some people like the bubbles -- some do not. I think it adds a bit of character once in awhile. I think it's also nice to try something dark with a little sparkle as backing for fumes too. You should share some pics if you can -- we love to see them!
