Default UNC Training Invitation for Monday, 2.7.2011

Sorry for the last minute posting but Jean was just able to get me the information for all of you NC Beadmakers who would like to attend the training at UNC.

Location and Time:
9-10:30am Training Session:
Clinical Neurophysiology and Sleep Disorders Conference Room (1st Floor, Anderson)
• From the Children’s Hospital lobby, take the ramp heading away from the lobby/front entrance.
• Turn right, and take the elevators (across from the Corner Café) to the first floor.
• Turn right out of the elevator bank, and walk to the end of the hall.
• At the end of the hall, enter the “Clinical Neurophysiology and Sleep Disorders” area and proceed to the Conference Room.
Jess’s hospital mobile: 919-445-7580 (will be turned on at 8am on Monday morning)

3-4:30pm Training Session:
5 Children’s Conference Room (5 Children’s Hospital)
• Take the Children’s Hospital elevators up to the 5th floor.
• Visitors: Pick up the black phone and identify yourself as a Beads of Courage attendee. When you enter the unit, the conference room will be in front of you on the left.
• Staff: swipe your badge to enter the unit. The conference room will be in front of you on the left.
Jess’s hospital mobile: 919-445-7580 (will be turned on at 8am on Monday morning)

Jessica Irven with the Recreational Therapy and Child Life department is the coordinator for this training session. I don't have too many details but if you check in at the main desk at the hospital and tell them you are a visiting artist there for the Beads of Courage Training they should be able to help get you there. Jean can be reached a jbaruch (at) beadsofcourage.org. Hope you can make it!!

Is it either session or both sessions?
What do you learn?

Debbie, it's either session. You would be in training with the staff members at the hospital who administer the BOC program to the kids so you'd be learning the history of BOC, the research behind the program, the clinical aspects, the nuts and bolts of implementation and finally and best of all, the staff would be able to meet the artists who make the special beads for the kids! It is really great for them to meet you in person and to make that connection and hear a little bit about how you make your beads.

ETA: You'll be meeting Jean Baruch, the founder and president of BOC too. Jean is an amazing and wonderful woman and she'll be giving the training.
