Best bases for silver glass?
Is there a thread already that lists off people's favorite colors for silver glass? I can't find it if there is - I use hades, stone ground, canyon de chelly and yellow ice ( well, until I run out anyways - sounds like I'm not going to find that one much more) but there's got to be more that works well. Thoughts?

This bead was made with one of the silver glasses on a base of regular old Moretti black (not the intense black). If I could remember what silver glass I used I would be happy to tell, but I really don't remember.

My favourite bases for silver glasses are:
- EFF Opal Yellow
- EFF Light Brown Transparent
- Kugler B181
- EFF Pale Ink Blue
- CiM Mojito
- CiM Great Bluedini
- CiM Slytherin
And I'm sure there's a ton more great ones.

Oh, I love Hades! It does awesome things with Raku also. I'll try to find a pic.
The very best colour for silver glass is Moretti Red Roof Tile, preferably the old brick-red stuff. It reacts beautifully with every single glass I throw at it, even the hard-to-work-with ones.

Here is the pic of a skull made with Hades with Raku shards. The Raku even reduced in the eye socket and made a cool brassy dot:
Also, like Lisa Fletcher proved with her gorgeous bead (love it Lisa!), just plain Moretti transparent black works well also.

Yes, I masked the brassy dot and threw the whole thing in etching liquid. Raku is usually iffy for me but this one had me doing the happy dance. And thank you!

Angie-
That is a fabulous look on your skull! When I first glanced at it, the raku looked like rose petals-the whole thing is very cool and I love the etching too!

Thank you Lori! It's my favourite so far, and I've never been able to replicate it.

Cim Canyon de Chelly.
After River Rock, any glass that looks unexcitingly beige, I try with silvers.
Also, I can't get away from silvered ivory. Just melt it in gently and enjoy the edge reactions--don't work it a lot, the reaction will spread.

Plain ol' regular transparent orange will work too.. I find it nice ot work with if you're covering it all up with a silver glass, especially fire lotus (TAG).
I like to use trans aqua as a base for DH frit swirl beads too, that I encase afterward.

newbie here: bought some sample double helix rods and wondered if the cheap person in me should win thinking of using DH as frosting on a base bead of less $$ stuff. if that person is right, what kind of base beads would work?
the spend-thrift thinks i should just melt the entire bloody rod and get solid DH beads. i am so conflicted. thanks for any adviceSara Conklin

@ sara - not many ppl use dh as a base, too pricey. This thread is about what kind of base beads work, so use any of the suggestions here & see what happens. Dh is very effective as stringer, in twisties, or cased over other color - no need to waste glass and money.

If you want a solid DH looking bead I would encase with the expensive DH . Maybe over crappy clear... IMHO a good way to use up scummy clear.
Nothing cheap about that, just common sense

I gave this thread five stars. There are so many good ideas here.
I also just remembered that opalinos are great with silver glass decoration. I think it's Rocio who has an e-book about using opalinos and silver glass together.
