Now I've made a caged bead, how do I make it pretty?
Here is what was in the kiln this morning I really did a happy dance when it all came off the mandrel in one piece - two pieces really. I spent a bit over an hour last night cussing and fussing, trying to get the latticework to stay and not melt everytime I hit another piece of the thing with the torch. There is a big crack in the bottom bead, but I'm hoping the framework will hold it together. The openings are all small enough to contain the bead inside, and it makes a really cool sound rolling around Other than PPP, does anyone have any suggestions for how to make one of these neater? I think I need to work a bit smaller, this one is about 50mm long and 40mm wide, but I could use some help with the latticework - how to attach it to the two ends, and how not to melt pieces already there.
I'm sure I'll be making more of these, they are great fun to play with once they are done - I'm hooked.

Thanks I've been holding on to it and playing with it all evening. It makes a really cool noise from the bead rattling around inside - makes a great worry toy LOL. I'd just like to figure out how to make it more symmetrical, and how to do one with less frustration. My shoulders were so cramped by the time I finished this one last night, I though I'd never be able to straighten up again.

Would it help to use stringer for the lattice pieces? I couldn't get as far as you did - making handles on things is something I'm still trying to master, and those lattice lines are bigger than handles.

The darker purple lattice is stringer. When I tried using stringer for all the lattice work, I found it melted too quickly if it got near the flame accidentally. The thicker pieces are a bit more forgiving that way.
