Is "set point" your garaging temp at 960 or so?

If I understand the article I printed above, after soaking, the issue is to cool at 60 degrees an hour until 400 degrees is reached, when she shuts off her kiln... your rate is cooling at a little over 80 degrees an hour and stopping at 700 if I read you right...

Maybe try her slower cooling rate down to 400 and see if it makes the change on transluscent to opaque? I'd like to know too!

Kristina-the beads you posted on the frit question post are great! I did not want to clog your question there. You are amazing on a hothead! I fought with mine and never made friends with it! Also-I started using That Frit Girl's frits and think they are wonderful. But have no idea if they will work on the hothead. But they do great on Devardi glass!

Thank you Bethany! Thats so nice of you to say.

I want to order a collection of the Devardi solid color frits and do some combining to make combinations I like. I really like this combination of colors, so it would be my first effort I think.

I will let everyone know what Devardi frit combinations produce it (if I can come close) if there is interest in it!

I did some beads with a combination of some of the solid color devardi frits. I just have to find the time to take pictures.
I garage at 950 also so there really isn't any change in temp from garaging to the beginning of the annealing cycle.

I got 4 of the solid frits with my order this time. I have not tried them. I have never tried to make blends! I will try that tonight. DH works all night so I get to play with fire!

It's a bit hard to see the cracks, but there are several on both sides, going off in different directions - so am pretty sure they're not thermal cracks. It went straight into the kiln after making.

I would say this stuff needs encasing, it is so rough and bumpy - has anyone made a bead with it without encasing?

Hi Steph, this is such a beautiful bead. It does look like a incompatibility issue. I received my luster rods today and only had time to encase it with Kuglar clear. I will report back if it survived tomorrow. I will test it with other clears tomorrow too. Keep my finger crossed that one of them works with the glass.

How did you get on with your testing?

I made another two yesterday. This time I encased the green rod with clear and pulled a thick stringer as I would normally, and applied that to a base of clear and another on a base of trans. emerald green, then encased with msc and I have cracks in both. One had more of the green luster rod in it than the other.

Might try using some other clears, too! I've got more 104 clears, and some Gaffer clear - and see how I do.

As a stringer, even encased in clear, it is still very rough - not sure that it would look good on the outside of a bead, just as stringer - might still be very rough.

I wonder if the blue is the same??

Hi Steph, forgot to post that it cracked with Kuglar clear too.

Based on your additional tests, looks like it doesn't like to be encased. Good question on the blue. I will try both with Devardi clear today.

This is a set of Chocolate Cupcake Earrings I worked up tonight. Devardi cake bottom and transparent sprinkles on the effetre ivory icing... since I am trying to go cold turkey on the real thing

So I got the Rod Warmer in my latest Devardi order, and went to use it yesterday. First, I was bummed at reading the instruction booklet that says you shouldn't run it for more than 1 hour at a time, with 2 hours to cool after that.

Second, I also got the bottom plate and the rod rest for the inside. So I put those in, turned the thing On, and about 30 seconds later I hear this POP noise and see a yellow flake shoot out of it and land on my bench. I shut the unit right off and looked inside, and the ceramic liner now has a crack in the bottom area. (The flake was a piece of the liner!)

So.... Has anyone else had the ceramic crack in theirs? And did you return it or keep using it and it's fine?

And do you use it for only 1 hour and then turn it off?

And Kristina, those cupcakes are so perfect I'm now craving cake!

Poor Sweetie... what a bad experience. I would be certain that Natasha and Devardi will refund your money. I would not use it after that.

Here is a link to the unit I use, which can be left on all day - beauticians use it. But I would think Devardi would want to try to make it right and send you another one.

Have I mentioned lately that I am SO blown away with the service from Natasha and Daniel?! Well let me say so here!!!

After a couple of replies to my Rod Warmer issue, I decided to email Natasha to see about doing an exchange. When I logged into my email account to write her, there was ALREADY an email from her saying that she had seen my post here and was going to send me a new unit tomorrow AM.

Just WOW! Now that's customer service! Thank you!!!

(Also, she says that they run their warmer far longer than 1 hour at a time and it's no problem. Just wanted to mention that too in case anyone was wondering since my earlier post.)

I also have a nice bead to show with the new Devardi Marbled Butterscotch if I can get pics taken later today.

Lisa I am so glad it all worked out. I should be recieving my warmer hopefully tomorrow or the next. Didn't know about the one hour limit but so glad to hear its okay to use longer. Natashia and Daniel customer service is awesome.

Just want to add that I emailed them about a question (getting the copper to turn copper) and had an answer very soon, and better success with the glass following their answer.

Daniel and Natasha have to be two of the nicest, best human beings on the planet. Whatever issue I have had they have made right and wanted to address on the spot. Don't you wish every business had that attitude!

Well, I finally got to play with the Dark Rose Luster Twistie, and the new Lipstick color for flower dots, and their almost Lime Green for leaves. The Dark Rose came out more of a wine color with the lighting I had to shoot it with, and the Goldstone in the center and in the glass doesn't show in my lighting unfortunately. I really need a photo box with good lighting, so much gets lost. But the Dark Rose Luster Twistie is really nice glass to work with.

I am so thrilled to be able to make larger sizes as hollows since I don't have a bead kiln yet. One day though - I am saving!

Well, I finally got a chance to try my new glass. The beads are still on mandrels so I don't have pics yet.

I love the look of the rose luster rods in hand! And as I was making the beads the aventurine was SO sparkly. Unfortunately the sparkle isn't nearly as showy now that they've been annealed. Maybe once I get them off the mandrel and cleaned the light will bring out the sparkly again. Love the way it melted, too.

I also tried a lovely violet and a pretty gray opaques together. Great melting, a little stiff though. Unfortunately, the colors were not as different once annealed as they were in the rod form. Pink/purple and gray are so similar, I need to separate them with white I think. I'll try that next time.

I also tried the dichro frit again, but this time did only one bead. The frit is so hard to pick up even with soupy glass. I think next time I'll prewarm it on a piece of tin foil and see if that helps.

Here are some of my frit beads. Most of these are on the SOP lt blue. It provides a great base color!

Now I need to sit down with these and figure out which frit is which!

I like that set of beads best of my fritty ones. It really looks like watercolor paints on them. Think I may even keep some for myself!

Yeah Me - I received my rod warmer and glass today. Want be able to try it out till tomorrow. I ordered a few pounds of the odd lot glass, they sent me a great assortment plus gifted me some free glass also. Like xmas around here. I actually have glass in my glass storage bins now.....LOL

Great work everybody, it's nice to see pictures being posted again. Here's a bit of what I've been up to and although I was sorely tempted to throw my mini Long & Lean press right out the window, I'm glad now that I took the time to get it sorted out, because it does make nice companion beads for my large focals....that thing was a real stinker !!

I've been working with the dark transparent rose and champagne dark rose alot over the last few days. If you don't want the bubble look, I have made beads by pulling down big fat stringers and making beads from those. It's time consuming but does work. Those are the only really bubbly colors I've found and I love the yellow gold transparent. I'd say it's a true citrine, myself as I have some of that stone I purchased at a gem & mineral show last year.
