YEAH my glass came today. Hope it us not snowing tommorow can't wait to try the Boro out. Did anyone order the transp orange it does not resemble prior batches I had at all it is looks more of a cranberry on the rod. The LT. OP baby green looks like fun. Also order some red stringers they look very nice going to have to get more in other colors they look to be around a 3-4 mm. I know like a kid in candy store having a blast. Can't wait till there next order comes in I have a list already started.

I love getting glass in the mail lol. I am waiting for this next shipment and will order everything at one go. Okay, here is the transparent yellow test beads. All of these seem to be okay so far, they were made two weeks ago. There are 4 plain spacers, the beads with the dots are devardi opaque white encased with the transparent yellow. The plain encased beads are transparent yellow, white, encased in transparent yellow.

Okay Ice Blue
The plain spacers are fine (yummy color too lol)
The white dotted ones are devardi opaque encased in ice blue. No cracks in these yet.
The plain light blue ones are transparent ice blue, opaque white, transparent ice blue. You can see the u shaped crack in the one and the other looks like it may also be developing the same type of crack. I will hold on to these for a couple more weeks to see if anything else starts to crack.
The second picture is from the Devardi website but the color is off. The colors of my beads are the true color of the rods.

Boro is in the house (ok, my house)
My glass came today!!! I got to play with it for a little while. I tested the clear with some of my other clear and it didn't seem to have any compatibility issues. I pulled stringer from all of my colors. I didn't play with it long enough to really test it all out, but so far it looks good. I have some pieces in the kiln and I will try and post some pictures tomorrow. Although someone may need to talk my through the process. I am so happy.

Wow!! I love the ice blue. I didn't order it because I wasn't really cracked up about the color on the website, but now that I see it in action, that's going on my list to order next time!!!! I've been having a problem with the Devardi clear cracking when I encase SOP white, SOP pink, and Moretti ivory. Anyone have any suggestions?

We are too in some cases, so encasing is what Sonja (and others as we have time) is researching... we need to find the colors that encase best, and which ones don't play so nice together. I am so glad we are working on it as a group. I have a list of colors that work nicely in the flame on my site, but we sure need the encasing research done and a list of the best mixes too.
I love the Ice Blue too, and I made this last Goldfish bead with it. There was an even lighter version of transparent blue, but it's not up right now. Maybe when they get all the colors in...

lol testing the clear over everything will be chore in itself! Maybe when I am done with the transparent's I will give it a go.
any particular color you guys would like me to check out next? I already have the dark violet, the seaweed green, transparent rose and golden smoke done, just haven't gotten to edit and load the pictures. I think I am going to use the pictures from the Devardi website (I hope Natasha doesn't mind!) and that way you can see exactly what colors I am talking about.

Kristina, I just can't get over your critters. You are so incredibly talented !! I just LOVE that fish !! I have recently ventured on to Pandora beads - let me tell ya, those honkers I took out of the kiln today could be used as weapons LOL. I figure it like this, the more glass I experiment with, the more I get to buy, plus the results of PPP. How can that be a bad thing ??????

It's all about using the glass and your torch, and learning to put them together. What a fun thing it is too. Some large Pandora beads can be made into necklaces by the way. They are gorgeous that way. Have you seen the Pandora Thread? The first one on this page is being used for a gorgeous necklace...

I sure look forward to watching you grow. Check out the Newbie and Intermediate Threads too. It's fun to post and share help with people.

Okay here is the Transparent Rose. I cry every time I put it over white and it cracks because, boy, its so PRETTY lol. You can clearly see that using it to encase the Devardi white is pointless, it cracks whether its over plain white or over a core of transparent rose, then white, then transparent rose.

This is the transparent not the dark transparent, but the same thing happens only worse with darker. And again, my pictures are very close to the exact color.

Here is the golden smoke. Lots and lots of bubbles in this rod, will have to look at the others and see if they are the same. But I really kind of like this color the next time I etch beads I want to see how they look etched. I don't mind the bubbles in the spacers, it kind of makes them sparkle a bit.
The transparent of just the Devardi white op has multiple cracks running through both beads (the ones with the dots). The bigger ones with the golden smoke on the mandrel, then white, then the golden smoke seem to be okay I will keep an eye on them for another couple of weeks and then pronounce them okay if they don't crack.

This is the Dark Violet. Yummy color but all four of the beads that encase the white, both with a layer of dark violet first cracked worse than the Rose colored ones, although you can't see it in the pictures because its a really dark purple lol. Pity too, its lovely over white. What's interesting is that it cracks UNDER the white dots, but the white dots themselves don't crack. I don't see a picture on the website for this color at the moment, I will try and remember to add it when its listed again.

I have cobalt blue in the kiln tonight and will be doing the yellow gold tomorrow. Maybe the extra light blue also.

Someone on here was saying that there glass looks burnt. I had a problem like that also when I first starting lampworking. I called and talked to everyone, I was so upset. It was fine then it wasn't. Sundance glass finally figured it out. I was using an exchange tank. The tank I got this time had yucky crap in it. It didnt show up until I got closer to the bottom of the tank. Sundace suggested I buy a new tank from Walmart and have it filled. They said you have no idea what people put in those tanks. They set outside and get stuff in them, some are even used to make drugs. That was enought to scare me and I bought a new tank and had it filled. It was like magic, my beads were beautiful again. After that my husband refused to get anymore exchange tanks, said it wasn't worth the chance. Hope this helps someone.

I had the same problem with my Hothead Torch. The torch would start spitting and go out repeatedly too. It seems that it was a combination problem for me. I wasn't burning ALL the gas out of the line when I was done for the day PLUS I had nasty old exchange tanks.
I bought a new tank at Lowes and now each time I work, when the flame goes out I hold a lighter under the end of the Torch and keep the flame going until it goes out. Don't yell at me for doing this, it makes all the difference in the world and my tank is outside through a wall, so leaks aren't a problem with the lighter.
Also, I usually refill at around half empty. I find the pressure changes as the tank gets below half full, and it wants to go out easier. I tried a valve that registers how full the tank is and it restricted the flow to much and it kept going out endlessly so I removed it.
Does anyone know another way to regulate the gas flow no matter the weather and stop the going out that does happen? I like to work as cool as possible.

Sonja, thank you so much for doing all this work and posting pics. I wanted to re-shoot this one today after reading your results with Opaque White. This is the Transparent Dark Rose over SOP White that was made March 14. It has not cracked.
The Opague White devits and gets stiff quickly for me, so I almost always use SOP White, since it's a soft glass to work and turns opaque. Sonja, if you can, would you also test the Transparent Roses over SOP White? It would be good to know if it works for you too since I'm on a Hothead Torch.

I can do a couple on with the sop white in the next couple rounds with the torch. Will try to get to it today. I just don't want to do it all in one session otherwise I will never remember which bead is which by the end lol. After I am done with all of these over the opaque, I will go ahead and do them all again over the sop. I also want to eventually encase all the opaques in the clear and see what happens.

I encased the dark marine green this week. No cracks yet. Very pretty encased too. I will try it over white next time I burn and post pics. I really appreciate all of the testing!

You are such a Champ. I will help too once I get this window finished.
I also want to do some encasing tests with effetre clears, to see if there's any difference in success rates. I have been putting masking tape & the glass name on the end of the mandrel after making a bead to ID it, and that has helped a lot. Before that I lost track to easy.

Kristina, maybe you could try a regulator on your HH. Check this thread
http://www.lampworketc.com/forums/sh...ight=regulator
I worked on a HH for 2 years and I always kept it turned way down. You are right, your colors will look better if you have the patience to work cooler.
Now about the glass, I got some Denim and it really is a beautiful blue, I have problems with the bubbles but I guess I can get over it for that shade of blue. I like the Salmon, too, very unique. I also ordered some clear boro for punties.

Thanks so much for that info. I have a Fuel Regulator I just bought for a Cricket that I will try it on the Hothead. Hopefully it will make a difference.
I look forward to seeing what you do with the Denim. I haven't tried it yet.

bubbles
I just bought a bunch of this glass, but am pretty disappointed in the bubbling. Is there any semi-opaque or transparents that do not bubble? I am assuming there's not a way to get rid of the bubbles. If I am wrong PLEASE let me know

The bubbles come from working the glass to hot and causing it to bubble, or from trapping air as you wrap the glass. Actually most transparent brands can be made to bubble if over heated.
Devardi glass must be worked very cool, so try again and hold your glass farther from the flame or turn your heat down. We have each had to learn this with Devardi glass. Please let us know how you do.

Generally, I don't have much trouble with the semi opaque, except for some of the blues, they need to be worked pretty cool and pretty quickly. The transparents, it depends on the rod you get. If you look at your rod held up against the light and its riddled with bubbles, you can't get rid of those, but they make some pretty spacer beads. If there aren't bubbles in the rods when held to the light then give Kristina's suggestion a try and work them a bit cooler. What kind of torch are you using?
