Corning glass tubing
I purchased a case of Corning glass standard wall tubing a while back and today I finally got a chance to use it. I found that the heat was traveling down the length of the heat a lot more than with other tubing I had used. The only two variable differences in this glass session were 1. the use of natural gas as opposed to propane and 2. the use of corning glass as opposed to ??? (something that wasn't corning).
Can anyone tell me if they have any knowledge about this sort of thing or similar experiences? Was it the corning brand glass or the natural gas that made the heat travel further along the length of the tube?
Any info would help, thanks!

the gas should not make a difference - heat traveling in glass should depend on the glass. But my guess would be, that you held the tubing in a different angle for the heat to travel up. As the flame hits your tube, it makes a big difference if you do an "ellobw down" or "ellow up". Heat always travels up

Thanks for weighing in. I actually am aware of that, and it was happening both in elbow up AND in elbow down positions. That's why I was so confused.

I use both corning Pyrex and simax tube. never noticed much difference in the working characteristics of the two.

Hmmmm. Now the only thing I can think of is that my hands are no longer as inured against heat as a result of being off the torch for a few months.

I was just trying to pull some points. Nothing major.
