Default Got a free hood...

It's just a regular kitchen vent hood-Broan? DH talks about using it and having it lowered and adding sides -and attached to a squirrel cage fan vented out the window in front of me. ( I am clueless about types of fans..) so he takes me into teh basement to hear his dust collector system and said it will sound somewhat like this outside though...which was close to the sound of an airplane landing on our block-which I don't think the neighbors would appreciate one bit. Not to mention it's right outside the window so I would be hearing it if they are indeed that loud...
Are they really that loud? Any thoughts?
TIA-
Amanda

NO - they are not that loud.

Dust collectors need very high velocity to keep the dust moving - usually 3500 FPM or better. For torch ventilation, 2000-2500 is sufficient.

If you have an existing kitchen fan, a torch ventilator fan will be slightly louder than your kitchen fan, but not by much.
