Default Hoses......

How long are hoses good for? I teach at the local city run centre that was set up for lampworking in 2006. Originally the torches were using tanked propane but in 2008 it was changes to natural gas. The hoses are in good condition - no cracks, still pliable but there are lots of soot issues even with the experienced bead makers. The torches are cleaned regularly.

Any thoughts?

Have not seen any soot issues with NG. It burns very, very clean. No need to clean the Scorpion torch on this end as it is on NG. See no buildup on the face or in any of the orifices. And zero soot in the flame.

One could replace one hose with "T" type as a test to make sure that any issue with residual propane within the hose is not the cause of any problems. But not sure if propane hose that was used long ago could cause this issue as one would assume that any residual propane would have long ago dissipated.

Thank you for responding. I just wondered if there could be build up in the hoses but maybe the torches need to be sent away for a really good cleaning.
