Take a tube, condense a section towards one end, leaving about 1/4" open space. That's pretty much it. Of course, you can make the more elaborately, but that's the basic technique.

i always thought a chillum had a pushed bowl, and the condensed one was a 'bat'... eh, doesnt matter to me...

size tubing? depends.. you doing a lot of decoration on the inside?? 25mm is a good starting point, decorate, condense a little, stretch it all out, and you can usually get several pieces out of a 3 or 4 inch section of tube

When I actually made them I used 19mm. But I hate making them almost as much as I hate using them, so it's very rare that I make one.

Norton caught it and stopped it for me .... but definitely it rang alarm bells! Anybody who posted above the link can edit their post to caution other forum users until somebody removes the link....

I"m so sorry and thank you whoever deleted my post. I am very surprised there was a virus attached! It is a well known web site, my norton scan is clean so it wasn't from my computer. Damn!

I don't MAKE them... I just... uh... see them around...but I agree... but I think technically a bat is a type of chillum. Just a very basic one.

I highly recommend that nobody else attempt to do a search for chillums on the internet!!
Check out www.glasspipes.org

Great site and virus free.

chillums have pushed "bowls" and bats have a constriction.

Aleta,
Chillums are smoking devices.
Unlike pipes which have a bend in them, chillums are straight (heh) and the bowl is on one end and end you smoke from is on the other. They can also have no "bowl" shape, and just have an opening that has a constriction to keep the smoking material from flying through and hitting the smoker in the throat...
or so I have heard.

To make a chillum, just make a normal pipe, but instead of pushing the bowl on the side of the ball blown at the end push it at the top. Next, instead of popping the mouthpiece hole at the end of the piece, pop it on the side, as the user will be holding the piece straight up. Also, don't blow a hole for a carb, it's not necessary. A nice little somethin somethin that I like is to pinch the glass a bit just above the mouthpiece so that it fits more comfortably in your hands when it is used. Or so I've seen.
