Default Working the new Terra

This was the subject of a Facebook thread, and I thought I'd move it here, too.

I found I get the best results with the new Terra by turning up the oxygen, and only striking it once. The more striking I did, the less color I got.

Others?

Do you have a link for the FB thread? I'd be interested in that.
There's this thread in the Gallery.

I think they're talking about the newly revived "old" terra that is available again.

I strke it after it gets very cool, sometimes a few times. I will also spot hit it with a reduction flame and then encase it.

Yes, this is the "new" old Terra from DH. It's hand pulled from the glory hole, and the rods do look a lot like the original. When I get back from the weekend I'll post a pix. I'm so proud of myself! And very few Terra rods were sacrificed to make these beads.

Received my new Terra last week and am not satisfied with the colors I've been getting. I am now thinking I might sell or trade it. It's just too frustrating.

I love it. What would you want in a trade? I have TN 2.1, Striking Color, OK 326 and 426, more.......

I love it. I work it just like TN2.1...hot until it goes clear, cool completely, reintroduce into the flame. I encase it because my kiln plays jokes on me

I'm going to keep the Terra for now. I'm having a bit more success with it. I am garaging the beads at a lower temp and making them at the end of my torch session and am getting better colors.

ok, i can strike it perfectly, its gorgeous, just one stupid question

how the bloody hell do you keep from dropping it on the desk when you have to get it white hot to start off with, i've tried getting it white hot in the gather, it goes like water and i cant wind it on, i've tried getting it white hot after i've wound it with a bit more success but its fallen off the mandrel three times

Thanks for the tips! I just ordered some last night, the hand-pulled stuff and looking forward to trying it out.
