The Glass Alchemy sample pack includes 3 sizes of 22 blends.

Approximately 2 pounds.

The boro frit I like the best is clear. Be sure to get a big jar of clear frit. It workes wonders on all kinds of colors. Samma ;-D

thanks for the help but what i really want are frit BLENDS. the GA pack are samples of their individual colors but i want somebody else to do the work of blending them in pleasing combos since i have no earthy idea what they do ..... yet. maybe with some experience i can make my own blends but for now i need help. i found a site

http://www.fengfritfactory.com/index...index&cPath=17

that have blends and sample packs but i was fishing the group for other vendors that people like, maybe more. the 104 glass world has maybe 4 major blend vendors.

again, thanks for the help.

Glass alchemy offers a color mixing kit that teaches you
about mixing and using their colors.

Might be just the ticket to start blending your own frits.

Dragonfly Glassworx "had" some nice blends but the company is now defunct

Feng Frit blends are very reliable in that I can reproduce the color I see on her website. But her shipping and customer service can be kinda hit or miss.

Paula at Venerable Bead has some beautiful blends but she just went through surgery on monday so I don't think you could get any of those at the moment. She needs to put herself first right now.

Angela Kane has a blend on Etsy ... She is Hot Flash Frit there. I just looked but nothing in her shop right now.

I've gotten the GA sampler to "play" with. I have one custom blend that I use as backing for my coral reef pendants and would like to play around with a few more ... but again mostly for backing for pendants. Someday I hope to work on some blends for beads but who knows when I may actually get that far. LOL

The Northstar sampler had more powder to it and I'm not much interested in powders ... yet.

powders scare me too, coal miners daughter syndrome....,

i got crazy and put a bit of all the frit i had, amazon bronze, triple passion, amber purple, some cobalt, green and red exotic hummm, anyhow, made a base bead of clear with a twisty of paris green and disco sparkle to give it some light color and depth. have learned my lesson, will not go into production until i see how it looks tomorrow. maybe will post.

thank yu Laura for all the indepth data. i may just get the Feng Frit sample since it seems to be the only game in town for now.

Go for the Feng Frit but make sure to use CC or Paypal. When times are good ... it comes pretty fast.

If you don't see it within 2-3 weeks ... it isn't one of the good times. She's in the Netherlands so there is definitely a lag.

I've bought from Chrissy multiple times and she is a great gal. Just got alot of irons in the fire. But I've had "shipping" issues with at least 50% of my orders (lost in shipment, returned to Chrissy for some unknown reason, etc.).

Here's my way of playing with any new color:

Put it on a base of clear, one unencased one encased, repeat above with white and black as the bases (beware some whites don't like to be next to the mandrel ... I usually start with a wrap of clear just in case). You can also expand on it with attempting to reduce and attempting to strike (to see what if any difference it makes). Once you see what the individual colors do ... then you can more fun with layering them.

Definitely check out the threads for colors for boro bead makers and Ginko Glasses Color Recipe thread. I'll go see if I can find some links. Great color combos and photos/tips in both of these!!

My God is there no end to the generosity of this fine group? Laura, you are THE BEST. I got your package of some boro frit blends AND directions. (better than a man....., at times). I digress.

I tried to make my own frit this weekend. Love the saying, "Friends Don't Let Friends Make Frit." I totally get it. The paddle plunge had a weird result. OF course the paddle didn't do a thing plunged into ice water but i happened to get it near the torch after the plunge and whammo, it shattered. big hunkin hunks but i thought it was interesting. took a hammer to the hunks, some powder and some smaller hunks. i am so buying frit, boro frit, 104 glass is a piece of cake. made some fun beads and, since i love to see people's photos, as a thank you i will take some photos and tell all when i post. This is one happening group!!
I have a few frit types and will IM you and hopefully return the favor. Sara

You can also go on Etsy and their are two people you can buy blend books from one is Stoney Marie (2 books) and the other one is Max and Me Beads. All three books have excellent recipes and most of them are with glass you already have plus maybe one or two colors of frit along with clear frit. Great way to learn while you are playing. Best thing I am finding as I am new to boro is finding out how to treat the glass. I was trying to stike glass how you strike 104 silver glass and it doesn't always work on everything. ugh.

what started my boro frit quest was buying Catherine Ondrey's Big Book of Boro Beads, vol 1 and 2. She talks about making her own frit but doesn't give directions, just wonderful recipes. Sandra Seamans' "my boro recipe book" again, many wonderful recipes but no frit making directions. I doubt that they intended to or should teach that too. Frit making is probably a separate tut-ette. i will check on Stoney Marie, great name, to she what she has. boro beads, love them! thanks for the advice

Default frit bead results

My frit blend for these beads is triple passion, amazon bronze, blue moon, blue exotic and amber purple. cooked it because of the ap and triple passion. struck them all and encased.

i have more to show but have to go melt glass now....
