Boro Glasses Shade 5, 6 or 8?
Coming from soft glass, I'm not sure what to use for boro. I'm getting a Wildcat torch. Should I get boro glasses that are 5, 6 or 8? I want to protect my peepers.

boro 3 is the recommended shade, and much easier to work with than the higher ones. I have heard 5s are too dark for most, and I can't imagine the rest, maybe those are for welders or something? I use clips over my regular diddys, so there is probably some extra protection there also

I work in only Boro and use ace green shade 3.
If you have very sensitive eyes get shade 5 the others are way to dark to work on a torch they are used for furnace work.
I would get shade 3 clip on's to go over your dim.

Alexis, what are you going to be making? If it's mostly beads, a 3 should be fine. If you're going larger with a lot of color, 5 will be good. They're dark and I doubt you'd want anything higher.
If you want to do both and not limit yourself, they make 3/5 split shades for boro.
Like Alan said, another alternative (mostly to see what you like) is to get welders shade 3 and/or 5 fitover glasses or flips for your didys. They're fairly inexpensive to try before you buy dedicated boro shades.

I have 3/5's and love them. I make boro beads primarily, pendants occasionally.
