Default Y-bracket for working with huge mandrels

Does anyone know if there exists a y-bracket stand that I could use to assist holding my 1" big hold bead mandrel. I love the challege of making the bead but I don't need the challege of breaking my wrist to hold it up. Its hollow but its still heavy. It seems to take a long time to even things out and fighting the stability doesn't help me any. Anyone ever seen such a tool out there, or do I need to talk to my welding friend?

I have seen some stands with two pulley heads on them to help hold and roll the mandrel. Mountain Glass Arts carries them. ABR might have them too.

Wow these are quite nice. A bit much for what I'm looking for. Hmmm I may need to get creative. I'm thinkin if I can get my welding guy to take 1/4" round steel and make it into a tall Y ....then theres the issue of adjusting. Ideas ideas.

Your welder friend can probibly do a decent job.
I had one from a ring stand I picked up years ago.

This is what my hubby made me. He thought I wanted the top at an angle (?) but I just rest the mandrel on the lip. I can screw the adjustable nut to move the bolt where I want it.

I have a rig that I fixed up that holds my regular mandrels while I spin them, maybe you could make some version work for your purpose. I have a couple different ones. I use a metal tall can deal, one is a candle holder and one is just a square metal canister. Oh and one time I used a big coffee can. I weight the can down, one has pennies in it, and I clamp a couple of small vise grips to it on one side, about 2 inches or so apart. The handle ends stick up in the air. This is what holds my mandrel while I spin! I always use it. Now, I use a hot head so mine is about 7 inches or so high, but you might be able to figure some version out...hope this makes sense!

You don't necessarily need a bracket - can just rest it on a nail or a metal sheet with a rounded top. 2 big penny nails that X each other make a nice little trough. Hope this helps.

you could make up and use a yoke similar to the ones used by furnace workers to support the punty at the glory hole, they use two ball transfer units in a v yolk this enables you to move forward and back and rotate with ease.

Gee, I just use a piece of coat hanger stuck in a 2x4. Maybe I should get fancy and stick in another bit of coat hanger, maybe wrap the 2x4 in foil or sumpin.

I use something like this, with a lot of big nails nailed into a board, about half an inch apart so that there are many heights available. No need for rollers, even when making 2"+ marbles - friction from the nail is negligible.
