Lydia,
You're welcome .
I hope to get pictures of my attempts at the Painted Rose Beads soon, but in the meantime I am printing out your Encased Floral Panel tutorial. After that, of course the Classical Garden trio tutorial.........I don't know if I can wait, I may go ahead and get that one today. This is so exciting, your tutorials are excellent and inspiring and I want them all!

Painted rose bead from tutorial
It was finally sunny today!
I would like to say a few things. This bead took me at least 3 hours. The first one I made took me from midnight till 4 AM. I can't seem to place leaves or rosebuds correctly and I can't get the bead rounded out very well at the end but I love making these beads. I made many but the first 5 or so I would never show anyone!
I also want to etch it and see what that looks like.

Carol, you did a fantastic job! Don't be so hard on yourself because you don't deserve anything less than huge kudos for a job well done. If it makes you feel any better, it took me a year to REALLY get this design to turn out the way I wanted it to. A few months ago, my failure rate on this bead was probably one successful bead out of every three that I made. After a great deal of practice, it became easier and now I really no longer have a failure rate. So, since you are doing this well after only having tried to make five of them, you're doing exceptionally well!

Thank you Diane and Lydia, I will definitely keep trying. I am looking for a better rake or dental pick as all I have is a knife. Know where they sell any good ones? I have a rake which is way too big that is about 1/8" but I want a 1/16" one.

Carol, do you have a Harbor Freight in your area? That is where I get mine. I use their stainless steel dentil picks.

Pretty beads, Pat, I got my dental picks at Harbor Freight for $2.90 on sale . Now, I just need time, lots of time and make some more of these painted rose beads!

Lydia, is there a place we can go online and view some of your paintings?

Pat, love your beads!!! Sending your daughter wishes of a safe and healthy delivery.
Patti, I sure wish I still had pictures of my paintings but most of them were sold and I didn't take digitals of them. I just started painting again recently and I'm hoping to show some of my work in my blog. I've been working on a small sunflower painting over a month now. I'm beginning to wonder if it's every going to be finished.
Oh, I just remembered. . .I do have one picture of a painting. It's OLD and the photo quality is pretty bad. . . It was my first rose painting. Well, sort of mine anyway. I had purchased a booklet to learn to paint roses at Michael's. I used one of the layouts provided by the author but instead of painting it the way the author did, I used Flemish techniques. My glassy career put a halt to my painting, but I'm finding myself itching to get back to the canvas again.

Pat, how exciting, congratulations on the baby!
Lydia, that is a beautiful painting!
I have my oil paints and canvases out and ready to go. One painting is an impressionistic style painting I've already begun a while ago and one is a painting my son wants. It must be something in the air that makes us all want to paint again .
I'm nowhere near as talented as you are though, Lydia!

Oh Lydia your roses are very realistic and soft. The baby was born last nite. She had her au-natural. Elizabeth Anne. Thankyou for your kind thoughts.

Painted Rose Vessel
I loved making them. It was fun and quite the challenge to adapt this to make a blown vessel. I didn't put the rose buds on but will work on that in the future. Thanks for writing the Tut.

I have to chime in Lydia - even my first bead (sorry, no pix, I traded it for some handknit really cool socks) was pretty. You are a generous and beautiful soul.

Oh Lydia, what a beautiful bead. I can't believe I'm just now finding this. I used to do china painting and your bead is just like some of the 'studies' we used for the paintings. I've been looking for techniques to get this look in glass and thank you so much for offering the results of your wonderful creativity. I can't wait to try it.

Hi!
Got my tut and tried it, but I had to substitute some of the colours. Here are my first results:
The smokeblue was too dark and it pitted, so I think I will etch it.
Then I tried another one yesterday:
Here I used Reichenbach Pink Lady instead of Rubino Oro - that's why the roses are crisper. Not sure if I like this effect...

Angel, I love the vessel. Someone else recently sent me a pic of one and I think this style is divine for little perfume bottles and the like! I'm glad you enjoyed the tut!!
Verena, your beads look fabulous! Like you, I like the rubino the best. It allows for a better dimensional effect. Pink lady is really stiff so it doesn't spread as well. Still a beautiful bead though!
Pat, Patti, Carol and Rita, thank you all for the compliments!!
