You could always experiment! My guess is the glass won't stick and if you are able to achieve this and then encase it, it might still turn black. Could you try it with something you don't care about first?

No this wouldn't be possible. As soon as it got hot enough to stick to a bead/be encased it would turn grey or black.

Pure silver doesn't like a lot of heat. Sterling silver hates it even more. By the time you get the glass hot enough to melt, the sterling silver will be toast. I tried to fuse sterling silver between glass once. Big mistake! What a waste of electricity too.

Fine silver would be the thing to try. I think that Barbara Becker SImon is making and selling them.

Have fun!!

If it's an heirloom or sentimental piece of chain, what about making a clear glass globe or hollow and putting the chain inside?

Who was making those again?

I actually did this years and years ago...I didn't put the chain in the flame...but heated the bead and sunk it in and then encased and it stayed shiney...(I had a broken pretty good size rope) anyway...the beads were great...but looking at them lately, sometime over the last years, they cracked...those cracks came later...it was probably cuz it was at least a 3mm diameter chain.

gotta treat it like you were encasing silver foil...no flame..keeping warm and encasing.
