Default Another Newbie Question

I bought a factory lot of glass, I know it is all soft glass, the rods are different widths and all different colors, one particular rod shocks everytime I try to introduce it into the flame. Is there anything I can do (I can't buy a rod warmer at this time) to get this rod into the torch?

Way out in the end of a big reduction (long orange candles) flame to warm it at first may help you.

Depending on what type of kiln you have, you can pop the "working" end of the rods into the kiln to warm them up.

This is particularly easy with a Toolbox kiln.

I've also been told, and found by experience, that any Devardi glass likes to be preheated.

I forgot to ask what color the rod is. Some are really bad about that.

Sorry, I don't see this right away. It is like a streaky tan color

Could it be Opal Yellow? Sometimes it can be shocky, but the reducing flame trick (I learned it here but forget who to credit, sorry) has worked with it for me.

Do you have a kiln? If so, run it through an annealing cycle and see if that helps. Otherwise, see if you have something else you can use to pre-warm, like a hot plate or electric griddle.

I looked on the davardi web page and I am pretty sure its the semi opaque light peach. I will try the flame trick

I don't have a kiln yet, I started at christmas. The hot plate idea is brilliant! I will try that as well. Thank you

check to see if there are any holes in the end of the rods... That means there's likely a hole running the length of the glass and that's frit on a stick. At that point i just try again with the big chunks.
