Button it Up — Functional Beads with Nina "Sam" Hibler, Friday, September 17
A button can be used in the traditional way or as a spectacular clasp or a focal bead. This workshop is all about the buttons, but there’s so much more! Students will make buttons on and off the mandrel. We will think out of the box or the buttonhole for the many ways buttons can be used and created. Student will learn to drill holes in glass with the flame and a tungsten rake, create beautiful latticino cane to decorate their buttons, use dichroic glass and more. We will make a variety of buttons with glass shanks and standard holes and learn creative ways to use buttons in our work.
We will be working on GTT Cricket torches and Nortel Minor torches. Please wear the safe, appropriate attire, which includes short-sleeved cotton shirts without pockets, long cotton pants or jeans, and closed-toe shoes. Long hair should be pulled back.
Glass will be provided for use during class. Students are welcome to bring or purchase additional, specialized colors if desired. We will be working with COE 104 glass.
