Aww thanks everyone. I had been meaning to post some mini tutorials for a long time but life has been bumpy. I am also playing around with creating videos for youtube, but that is going to have to wait until the xmas fair season is over.

Anything you guys want to see me doing in videos? Ha, I am a bit nervous about being in videos but I guess my hands will be the only stars.

Once I get my last exchanges out of the way I'll try this. I so suck at encasing, I'm thinking it's a heat control issue for me tho. Thanks again you always share the most helpful stuff!

Ali, it usually is about heat control when it comes to lampworking........you know....maybe this is something I should try to make a video for. I just need to get past the Christmas shows and then I will have some free time to do such things.

Give it a try and let me know how you do. Remember to just keep the base glass warm and behind the flame.

Welcome! When I find some free time , I am going to create a few focals with transparents encasing opaques. I will post when finished. Remember to have more fun with your glass choices instead of just encasing with clear. There is so much to discover with layering colours.

Thank you so much. I'm excited to go fire up the torch now! Won't happen until this weekend, but excited to go try this.

PS...I know this has probably been asked and answered before...but how do you dip your mandrel in the middle?

thx.

Welcome!

And remember, you can do this for a bead with more than two layers. Just melt each layer down to an olive shape with pointy ends to encase and repeat for as many layers as you need. Some of my beads are four layers deep.

Here is a good layer combo:
white
encased in black
encased in marshmellow
encased in clear
etch

I hope I remembered that correctly....

I kept the instructions simple so it can benefits beginners as well. I hope this helps at least one person This is how I encase all of my beads now.

Enjoy!
Glad to find this thread. My encasing is generally ok, but I have never mastered nice ends to my lentils. Now I know how, thanks!

I got an email notice of the thread update, hi all! Glad to hear you are still finding this one helpful. It is great because then you get both of those ends encased nicely

These days I am on Facebook
