etching glass beads
I bought sone armour etchall to etch some glass beads. Did not have good results. Can any offer suggestions as to how long it needs to sat in the etching soln. The bottle said 5 min. I did that but it did not etch the glass very well. Any thoughts would be appreciated. Thanks Ann

That stuff doesn't work for me, and it's pretty toxic.
I get my best results with the etching crystals that Arrow Springs sells. Get the large jar, that way you can etch right in the jar and not have to transfer the stuff to another container and back.
Add warm water to the crystals and they dissolve into an etching liquid that gives a really nice smooth satiny surface. Black glass gets satiny in about 8 minutes (maybe less, but that's how I set the timer).
And it rinses off quickly in running water. A dip in some soapy water and another rinse, and you're good to go.
The solution turns black with age, but still works great. I'm still working the jar that I bought 3 years ago.

What kind of glass are you trying to etch?
Bullseye and some of the CIM colors don't etch very well.
Also, personal observation, the beads need to be dry before you put them in the solution.
