cane cutting can be hazardous.
I just cut a giant hole in my thumb cutting murrini with a pair of tile nippers. Does anyone have an alternative process.

Youzers! Sorry to hear about your injury. Hope it heals soon!!!
When you say "tile nippers", are you talking about the flat-edged style - the kind that sort of look like pliers but have blunt-nose, flat cutter ends? Meaning not "wheeled" nippers?
I use the wheel type - and have never had any kind of injury accident. I wonder - how big around is your cane? Sometimes when they get too large in diameter (bigger than 10mm, that is) they require a saw to slice them rather than a nipper or cutter.
Here's my little tutorial on how I do mine...maybe this will help? http://www.lampworketc.com/forums/sh...urrini+slicing
Take care and be careful!

Yowzers, Steve. Watch yourself.
You need some wheeled nippers like DeAnne said. I put a towel into one of those big popcorn tins that are around everywhere during the holidays and nip cane into there.
Those tile cutter nipper dealios are just waiting to turn on ya.

You can make a "catcher" really easy too.

If I'm only cutting a few, I just hold my thumb on the end of the cane that I'm cutting and when I cut it just stays there until I move my thumb & drop it. I've never had a problem, but I'm kind of new to making murrini so maybe I just haven't slipped up yet, be careful!

We have a place for things like this. http://lampworketc.com/forums/showthread.php?t=154306
You should look at using a file to score and snap it.

I just wanted to mention that I got one of the tile cutters with the wheels at Harbor Freight last week for about $8.50. Hope your hand heals quickly.
