Arrow Loren Stump- Butterfly Murinni; FlameTree Glass

Loren Stump - Butterfly Murinni
Dec 2 - Dec 6, 2014

This workshop is designed for the borosilicate or soft glass student.

For people who have already taken Loren I or have extensive flameworking experience. The techniques covered are similar to the Loren I class but at a more difficult level. The Murrini portion of the class will concentrate on creating repetitive patterns (using borosilicate or soft glass) which will be used to construct a butterfly. The first several days will focus on constructing, shaping, pulling the butterfly lobes, then wings. After all components are ready, the final butterfly murinni will be pulled. The next stage is cold working the murinni into polished slices to prepare for a paperweight which can be made out of borosilicate or soft glass. Murrini cold working techniques include sawing and polishing murrini chips to be included in the paperweight. Encasement involves a larger amount of borosilicate or Schott crystal and several layers within the paperweight so the butterfly appears to be hovering over the floral setup. Vacuum encasement technique using the stump sucker designed by Loren will be included along with proper use of stump shaper tools. All levels of experience welcome.
