Default Remember the thread about stuck beads?

ok.....I need some more thoughts...

After all of your suggestions, I ordered some mandrels from the Bead Box Man (they are beautiful!)

BUT.....I had some of the old mandrels dipped and ready to go with my usual bead release that I just couldn't let go to waste, so I figured that if they stuck I would put those mandrels that got beads stuck in the pile I have to trim and anneal....

SO.....I torch about 20 beads, next day, they slide off like the should, very little twisting, then I go to the bucket that has stuck beads soaking from a week to three months...they all come off too??!!!!!!

The only thing that changed was the weather. We have been very, very dry here for 2 months, that weekend, it rained.

Could that be it??????

but they've been soaking, the weather would have no effect if they've been underwater

Yep, so it must have been the bead release then. I noticed that if I'm just tired or I have already been twisting and pulling beads off all day, then I start to lose my grip strength. It doesn't seem like it, but apparently I do. This is when the problem is me, and not the bead release.

I agree about the underwater thing, just seems so strange that they ALL decided to release at the same time....

I find when they are stuck if you use one of the ribbed jar openers to grasp the bead, it helps to remove it from the mandrel. I cut the round ones in half, they are easier to handle.

I think the stuck bead generator is broken,'cause they are just sliding off the mandrels.....go figure. (ps. a torching friend was having the same problem....and viola no more problems) so it wasn't just me.... We'll attribute it to the super dry air we HAD for the past two months (and the stuck bead generator!) and hope it doesn't happen again anytime soon. However, all that said many of my old mandrels are being refurbished!!

i can't recommend this thread enough:
stuck bead removal tool

I've gone from spending 2 minutes per bead with lots of elbow grease, frustration and occasional brokens to 5 seconds hassle free.
