Burgundy glass?
I bought a new top and can't find the right color of burgundy glass to make beads for jewelry. Any suggestions? It's dark...like Merlot.

Effetre had a machine pulled Wine color that might work. If not, there are some lovely burgundy in Gaffer.
Best of luck

Mix up your own recipe until you get the color you want or instead of trying to match go complimentary, or contrasting.

Have you tried layering transparents? Maybe red and light brown? I would try several combinations, just for fun!

I just held up the Bordello and it's very close. Simply Berry is way to purple.
I was hoping for an opaque.
Tammy, do you know the number of the Wine?

I wish I could help you but sadly, we've lost two of our glass suppliers and I'm pretty sure I got it from one of them. I know they called it wine but I'm not sure what the effetre number was.

I think you will find Bordello too dark, it is a very saturated color.
You might try Effetre Purple Red or CiM Lipstick for a pastel burgundy.

devardi burgundy
Devardi has a really nice deep burgundy. And, it's decent to work with, not shocky like many of their colors. The bigger beads with the silver trails in the picture are burgundy. The smaller ones are mixed with a transparent orange. I've only ever used their transparent burgundy but they do have an opaque one as well. And the price is right. Good luck.

How about Messy Valentine? If that's too red, you could deepen it with a layer of Bordello.

I've never heard of Valentine.
I love the Devardi burgundy! Think I'll check it out.

If you do that, be sure to get a few different shades anyways. Many reds turn different colors after being worked in the flame.

Maybe batches differ. I used Purple Red for Texas A&M colors (maroon and white) and it was perfect.

Batches vary greatly. Most of the effetre reds I get differ from batch to batch.

Effetre dark brown is what I use for a burgundy ...
Fall Flourish by beadbijoux, on Flickr
You probably want to buy in person as the brown batches for Effetre vary a lot. I was actually hoping to buy a brown but this particular batch was very much red so I use it as a burgundy instead.

I would be happy to send you a sample of a bunch to check out.
I think color 438 may be a good one to try. You have to remember, ALL reds change batch to batch, so trying to buy with out seeing it, will be a challenge. The 438 I have is really close to the pic in this link.
Let me know if I can help,
Ron

This is my suggestion. 452. mine was not transparent. It looks great etched! These have a wrap of clear spiraled and melted in just for the striation effect. I love love love them. They are almost more brown before they are etched. I suppose it depends on how you work the glass too. This would also be the perfect base to start with if you wanted to do some layers and tweek the color.

Thanks you guys for all the suggestions! I didn't want you to think I forgot about this thread... so here's a picture of the blouse. It's darker than in the photo, (new camera on santa's list) and the sleeves have a black thread in them. I have made some test beads and Robin, Foster Fire has sent me some older Moretti brown that is more burgundy, I think that's going to be the one. Thanks Robin! I'll probably end up mixing the colors up a little since the top has alot of different textures. The buttons are pewter.

Now I see why Simply Berry wouldn't work. But it did match the Merlot I looked at - lol!
We want to see the beads when they are done Sheila.

Yes...I wish I didn't have 30 irons in the fire right now (so to speak!) But I do want to wear it on Christmas. So as soon as I get my tree decorated, throw a Christmas party, bake cookies for dad...send cards...and keep my Etsy running...maybe I can make something for myself!
