Is it worth just going to half the Gathering?
So, I've never been to the gathering before, and I signed up this year, but can only go from wed-Fri. Is it worth going, do you think, or am I just going to miss most of the fun by not being there on the weekend? Should I just save up and plan to go to the whole thing next year?

Oh hell YES, any Gathering you can do is better than no Gathering at all!
On Wednesday you could do the pueblo tour or just explore Old Town, and go to the opening reception.
Thursday you could go to brekkies at Rio and troll the tech vendors all day, maybe do one of the bus tours, do the LE meet up, hit a couple seminars/meetings, hang with beadbabes then go to Open Torch.
Friday is one of the two big presentation days, and you'd get to see all kinds of fabulous presentations, can't be missed! And another open torch that night...
You'd be missing the Saturday bead bazaar & banquet and all the presentations on Sunday and trading party, but you would still get great value from what you could do, meet lots of beadbabes, and it would give you an idea of what the full conference might be like next year. Do it, and seeya there!

Aye and if you asked anyone you meet if they have trades with them, you might could get some trading done before the trading party anyway.
If you can then you should.

Trading beads at the Gathering is like shaking hands.
It is just a new form of sharing.
It helps folks new to the addiction learn that what you don't think is worth the time you put into it might just be the bees knees to someone else.
It's a little more personal than a business card and a little less intrusive than a kiss plus you get to take it home and it will help you remember several specific minutes out of a whirlwind of a week.
Figure them as glass snapshots.
It is not the bead that is important. It is the memory.
