Default Decent Lentil ends

Hi,

Please could someone tell me how I can get decent, neat ends to my lentils.

I have never had any lessons, so battle along on my own!

At the moment I squish the bead into a lentil shape and then add bits of glass around the ends if they are not neat enough and then squish again.

This works fine if the lentil is just one colour, if I have added flowers or some other design it is really difficult to add bits of glass to the ends withough ruining the design.

Is their any other way to get really nice dimpled ends?

All help will be apprecited!

regards,

Jillybean

Footprint & timing - your footprint should leave ~2mm on each side.
Don't press too hot, wait till you see the surface starts cooling (skin
starts to build).

At least that's what works for me..

I never did get ends that I was happy with. I switched to the straight sided lentil press and just love it. Similar shape, no problem with the ends.

I know this sounds silly but for some reason one day when I was making a bicone that had too short of ends on it so I decided to use my lentil press on it. The lentil came out looking nearly perfect. Great ends nice rounded surface etc. Ben doing itthat way ever since

Here's one of my flat sided lentils. The edges can be left a bit more flat or you can round them out. In person, this bead has more of a flat side than this picture shows. You can see that the holes come out quite clean without fussing. The ends are not dimpled, just nice and flush with the sides. The overall shape is kind of like a lozenge.

Thanks so much for your advice and pics everyone. I really appreciate it! I like the shape of the flat sided lentils. Looks far neater!

Jill

As was posted above, the way to get nice edges is to roll your unpressed hot bead around the top or bottom of the bead press. That moves the glass so that when you press, the edges will be nice. Try that, it works every time for me.

I usually press the bead when it is in the donut or barrel shape. Carolyn, how did you make those gorgeous beads???

The beads are on a base of either Silver Cinnamon or Caramel Apple, rolled in silver foil with flowers centres of rubino, and petals made with a stringer of straw yellow and light iris gold. I have the Corina orrbs set which has three thicknesses, same bead diameter. I press before I add the flowers decorations, then re-press in the next size up after the flowers have been added. This keeps the shapes crisp.
