Default Hokie bird help

I am definitely sculpturally challenged, but wanted to try to make Hokie birds for my craft show in Blacksburg, home of the Virginia Tech Hokies. So here is what their mascot looks like:


And this is the first bead I made... A bit of a goofy hokie.
My original thought was to hang orange and maroon beads under it, but yuk. So I think he needs a body, just not sure how to begin. I need to keep it somewhat simple. Any ideas you might have would be so much appreciated! And I'll keep trying...

Do it in 3 pieces. You have the head; then do a body and then legs. Sketch em out first so you have a sort of road map to follow; I did a quick and dirty sketch on the comp to show you what I mean:
