Smile Tutorial on this bead style...

I have a question about how to make a particular bead. I don't know what it is called but it looks like glass that is overlapping and wrapped around the bead and encased. I think some people call it an armadillo bead but I don't think that is what it is. 2 colors are used, at least thats all I've ever seen it in. I would post a picture but don't want to do that without permission from the person who makes them.
So if anyone has any ideas I'd appreciate info on a tut paid or unpaid. Thanks for you help in advance.

How about a link to the bead?

Is this what you mean? This is called a tornado bead.

http://www.mzglass.com/tutorials

Otherwise there is a tutorial for a style called an armadillo bead:

http://www.lampworketc.com/forums/sh...d.php?t=155128

Saw your post after I posted these. I have seen a tut for a bead like that. Let me see if I can find it.

Those are just gravity swirls. Make your base round or donut. Add dots, but keep some space between them. About 5 is usually a pretty good number. Melt them in. Super heat the bead and let it sag while turning the mandrel. (Do it slowly, otherwise you'll just have swirly beads, not the look you want.)

ETA, you can also use lines instead of dots. I'd draw you a diagram but I'm at work...

If you mean the swirly beads that look like they have stripes in a random pattern I would say gravity swirled frit. You would take the dominant color and roll it in a small bit of frit Then you would heat the bead to slightly runny and twirl it back and forth slowly to get the frit to stripe. Does that make any sense at all?, lol

Here you go:

I purchased this tutorial and I think you could use the same technique for smaller donut shaped beads.

Yes. Experiment a little with opaques & transparents until you get the look you want. I was obsessed with that style a couple of years ago. Some colors don't work as well as others... Sometimes you need to add a transparent dot between opaque dots... Sometimes you need to do a couple of layers...
