Honeycomb?
After doing some searching online, I have discovered that artists tend to have different ideas of what honeycomb technique is. I have seen it refer to a bunch of small dots placed in close proximity to each other, and others where it looked like murrini made in honeycomb patterns. When you think of the honeycomb techique, which process or "look" do you think of?
If anyone has any pics, links, etc, post if you feel like it. Still looking...

The basis of any "honeycomb" is a dot pattern which forms hexagons. I think most people consider the tubing technique most often when discussing honeycombs.

I will post some pics when i get home. I do these a few different ways to get different effects... my fav would probably be a light layer of a striking color frit inside a piece of tubing melted in blown out thin and dotted up then condensed solid. And struck over multiple kiln cycles. Also the milis i make are the same version then pulled down into cane and cut up into chips..

I always thought a honeycomb was a six-sided construction. Yep, just looked it up. A honeycomb is hexagonal.

Theres a thread over on talkglass.com about honeycombs that talks specifically about silvering, then using clear dots to push the silver into honeycomb patterns. A white hazy honeycomb sounds boring until you se the brilliant colors this guy gets out of kiln striking! A-maz-ing.

How do the cells get shiny/irridescent inside in the above pic? Is that a fuming thing or a glass color?

Thanks, Juln, for your quick answer back. I have another stupid question... In this case, was the rod fumed and then melted into dots, or was the base/ surface fumed and then had clear put down over it? Thanks so much for your continued patience! Papiglass, whatever that technique is called, it's gorgeous!! Thanks for sharing!!

base/surface fumed and clear on top to trap the fume....
go play, and try several different techs... make something up and see how it goes... that is how innovations happen

A small hint, the thinner the bubble the better. You don't want it to implode though...

That is a great idea mike. I like to push the borders of things also. I once put ten smaller skull implosion on a marble just to see if it could be done (it can).
