Default Whats the trick to creasing petals?

Hi everybody!

I've been trying to end up with some decent looking creased petals in my encased florals. It's just not happening. I either have air bubbles trapped, or I melt the creases out after they're encased. What is the trick to doing this? And, if you extend your crease in the petal to allow air bubbles to escape, how are you encasing the bead? Side swiping?

I'd love some tips. Thanks much,

Try creasing the base color of the petal and then covering the crease with the transparent color/clear layer dot. The crease should stay crisp. Then melt in and encase normally. HTH!

Oh now THAT is a great idea!! I never thought of that. I'll be trying that out.

Thank you very much!

You're very welcome. I actually learned it from Cynthia Tilker, who is a fabulous teacher. She is full of nifty tricks to make glass behave.

You know, sometimes it seems so hard to figure something out, then you find out how easy it really is.

I shut down my torch for today, but this makes me want to go back and turn everything on again!

Thank you again, that really made my day!!

I forgot to mention, I love your Xbox bunny! What a doll...

Before I forget to ask you, are you a side swiping encaser, or do you blob it on?

I usually spiral encase from left to right. On really small floral beads I blob encase, big blobs to cover whole flowers and little ones in between. I'm not a perfect encaser but I practice with everything. I use clear as a base a lot and then encase the clear with transparent colors and vines, then encase that with clear, add flowers and encase again. The only encasing that really matters is the final layer, but I get my practice in for sure!

I'm having a little trouble with the way i'm encasing, which is getting the glass really super hot and plopping down blobs. I spend so much time trying to reshape everything and it's just plain annoying. I need an easier way to do this. I understand encasing takes time, but the amount of time I spend trying to shape my beads after encasing is just ridiculous.

Hi Cutie Patootie Rambo! Makes me want another bunny... ( I used to have a beautiful black Lop )

Try spiraling, it keeps the shape of the bead intact. As long as the base bead is hard and the encasing glass is really hot, the flowers don't distort. I try to overlap each previous wrap a little to keep air from being trapped and to make sure the whole bead is encased.

I'll give spiraling a try. Thank you for your tips Kelly.
